OONOITIONG OF EMIGRATION. .'"*)1
Work For Right Men In °anode, Says
Glasgow Papar.
Seale miaundortstanding exists at
the pres, ent tirae regarding the con-
ditions of emigration to Canada, says
i
a writer n The Glasgow Evening
News. The idea has got abroad that
the Canadian Goverment, *finding
that the number of emigrants arriv-
ing Irani Europe was too large tor
the country, have placed solid ob-
stacles in their way.
There is a certain amount of truth
in this belief, but it is mixed with a
great deal of falsehood. It is per-
fectly, true, for instance, that a large
nUrnber Of undesirable emigrants
reached Canada last year from Eng-
land, and it is also true that the
Canadian Government have taken
stepe to prevent It repetition of this
disaster.
For the arrival of these people in
Canada was aetnally disastrous, both
for themselves and for the country..
The intention MIS right. These elm- •
;ante had been sent oot by eharitabrie
societies, working chiefly in London.
In Oder that they might get e. fresh

many of the people thus aasisted had
lost the desire or the capacity to
