The Canadian Medical Association
held its 41st annual session in Ottawa
recently and there was a Iaxge attend-
ance of medical mien prefient from all
parte of Canada. The organization is
one of the oldest of ita kind in Canada
and was formed in the city of Quebec
in 1867 and has held annual meetings
ever sine. It is the parent medical
association of the , Dominion and its
conventions are held in thebig cen-
tres. of population. Last year a new
constitution was introduced by which
the work was broadened• and Made
more national in character. The Ot-
tawa doctors had an entertainment
committee and the visitors were well
looked after and given a very pea,$-
ant time. The covention was held in
St. George's Hall and the Racquet
Court was also engaged for the dis-
play exthibitions of specimens and oth-
er things p1 interest to the medical
profession. Sir Wilfrid Lagrier ad-
dressed the convention and made come
interesting references to ' his • own
health and the means he had taken
to recover it after he had been paw
tically given up by the • leading doc-
tors of Canada and Europe. Rest: sim-

result of the deliberations of
the convention a journal, for the bene-
fit of the profeasioe may, be shortly
established in Canada. Dr. Montfzam-.
belt delivered a very interesting paper
on the . question of the preset#on
of health and gavo- -many -- practical -
hints on the :subject. The basis' of
health in . families he argued was
cleanliness, . simple food, and proper
rest, He advocated for people advanc
ed in years at leastone hours; sleep
before midnight, and he severely Criti-
cized the dangerous habit prevalent
among women of kissing when meet,
ing and parting and, the promiscuous
kissing of child causes that: did
much .to' spree isease. He also con-
- tended that aunibing should be
carefully inspected by a municipal of-
ficial and all plumbers bold be com-
pelled to take out a license after a
proper examination.. He argued that.
active measures should ' be taken to',
exterminate rats, . a great soubee of
spreading disease, and advocated, a
Federal health bureau to take charge
of the education of the public in re-
gard to proper sanitations and also
the establishment . of the •National,
Tuberculosis Sanitarium.
The association will meet in Winni-
peg next year and Dr,R. J. Blanch-
