Agriculture In Canada
As Mr Creelman points out. Cana
diens have not yet really begun to'
farm their lands. They do not know
what intensive farming is. In too
many cases they rob the land and put
nothing back, Consequently the
fertility of the soil falls oft, In Europe
fields that have grown crops for a
thousand years are still fertile. But
over there they du things thoroughly.
The most successful agriculturist is the
man who possesses a little land, and
devotes his attention to keeping it up
and making every foot da its very
best work. The Grimsby district in
Ontario is an example of what in-
tensive fruit farming will ' do for a
community. Thtre land •sells $1,000
an acre.
ThePresident of the Bank of Mont.
real has drawn attention to the im-
portance of improvingour agricultural
methods. The soil of Canada annually
yields upwards of four hundred mid -
ions of dollars, and any percentage
of increase! in the quan` y of improve-
ment in the quality of tue crop is of
great significance to the country. The
-experimental work being carried on at
the Ontario Agricultural College and
by Sir Wm MacDonald at St Anne's is
fraught with vast import to the future
of the Dominion.

westward, and being very tired', were
g1s4 to try to get a, little red, altho
sleep I was almost- impossible, as the
train jolted a good deal. As 80011 as
day began to break* we felt curious to
see what the'country was like. The
part of Quebec that we passed through
was not very invithog, and we felt glad
that it was not our destination. Eventually wereaohed Montreal, and alight-

little ever an hour to wall before we
could proceed on our way. While wait-

experiences, Which were; vepy varied.
At last the train bound for Toronto
Was. ready to start, and we took our

never left the car. Several occupants
•of the car were, like ourselves, bound
for Toronto, others were constantly
coming and going, thereby causing a
little, variety to the otherwise tieing

beautiful in its spring garb, the fruit
trees, being full of blossom in the vari-

which gave such a cool appearance to

hundreds of people very. smartly attir-

being very* warm. The following
morning. we were up betimes, and left
Toronto at 7 a m. for Seaforth, reach-

ceived a very warm welcome from our
cousins, some being at the station to
meet'us. While visiting with them
we were constantly taken out to see
the different parts of the neighborhood,
and many ot their friends, thus driving
many miles. We were delighted with
the • maple and poplar trees which
grow abundantly, everywhere, and the
beautiful wild flowers -which are so
plentiful. •After staying two or three
weeks with our cousin, 111r N Peck, we
went on to Stanley township to visit
with Mrs. J. T. Keys, another cousin,
again receiving a warm welcome. We
spent a, very happy tune and visited in
many homes where we met with
great kindness from:everyone. Our
next visit was to the home of Mrs. P.
Cole! of GoderichTp., who is another
cousin. There again we were warmly
welcomed and again found that pleas-
ures had,,beeh' planned to make our
visit a happy one. Indeed all our
friends seemed bent on our,having
really good time while. in Canada.
We several times visited Bayfield a
lovely spot for pieries, and admired
the surroundings very much. It is
beautiful down by the river side and
by the Iake shore, and there is no
wonder that many people are attract-
ed to the place' for the pleasure of
boating, there beinga.mple opportunity
to Indulge in that pleasure. We also
went to seethe Niagara Falls accom-

Mr and Mm N Peck. •The ,clay we
spent there and the journey to and
from Niagara are never to beforgotten
days. We passed many beautiful
places 00 .our Way.Paris being one
which looked particularly pretty as
we saw it from the train. Hamilton
was another lovely place and the
scenery along the way, mountain
valleys and rivers, all gave .0 wondea-
