Soda -•.There is little ehaagge to be
quoted in the situation • of 'lye hogs on
the market, Receipts neje been rather
light, but tine is to a considerable
extent counterbalanced by inferior
quality. With bacon and cured meats !
pretty firm on the Toronto market, an
enh.tnced value foriive hogs on the
r American market, and with at least
av no recession on the British market for
bacon, the situation shows little indl-•
t cation of dullness for the future. At
the present time prices are quoted as
unchanged from those of last week.
Gunns, Ltd., quote $6,40 f o b.. $U,50

price did not get, above $5,26 for the
best, In fact, it would look a safe
quotation to place • the choice exporters
at from $4.80 to $5.25, with medium
goods at from $4,50 to $4.65. Export
bulls were worth around $3.75 to $4.25
There are no cows of export class

goods were worth from $4.50 to $4 75; •
good cattle $3.$0 up to $4.25, and med-
ium butcher cattle at • 03.25 to $8.75.
Butcher cows of choice character were.
quotable at from 53.40 to $3,85, good
cows at $3,15 to. $8.40, and common
cows $2 to $3, At West Toronto
Cattle Market yesterday the receipts
of cattle were 40 care: 850 head of cattle
and 31 veal calves.' As the offerings
were light, drovers,.. as usual, tried to
hold out for higher prices, but the
demand was not, ,good enough' to
stand for this, and dealers soon came
to` terms on a reasonable • basis. The
trade in export ' steers seems to be
dull.•

As it is too disagreeable to work at
the harvest this morning, on account
of a heavy thunderstorm which passed
over this vicinity through the night
we take he opportunity of writing a

through, your valuable medium, de-
scribing in a vague.' manner the condi-
tion of the crops here and i`n the sur-
rounding district.. About two months
ago indications pointed to a bumper
crop proviaing there • was enough rain,
but just about that time a drought set
in, • and ' up to the present there has
been leo 'ram to speak of, consequently
, the land will not yield as heavy a crop
as was at first expected. However,
...is.satisfiedwiththe outlook,
generally speaking. The wheat here,
will average about 17 bushels to the
acre, and the oats about 25 bushels to
the acre, ; the oats will not have as
much rust es informer years.. We ex-
pect to start threshing next week, and
have got our outfit in readiness, with
the exception of the separator, which
requires to have a few boxes babbited,
etc. The C P R have empty box cars
standing at each station all along the
line, awaitingpatiently the golden
gram. We ave made negotiations
to store our wheat in one of the eleva-
tors at Mather and will team direct
from the machine to .the :elevator, a
distance of about six miles. The land
here is genuine .prairie land with the
exception of an odd note, and is nearly
all in crop, We have gota, small quail.
tity to break up and when it is too wet
to cut wheat we take advantage of the
tirne,and dosome ploughing or dieting.
The farm laborers excursions brought
a large number of willing.handsto this
place, and we do not expect any
trouble in getting all the help we re-
quire for the threshing. As the bun
has made its appearance from behind
the clouds. we will have to adjourn
this note for the present in order to
got out to the fields as soon asossible.
