Joyce and Murray Vincent greeted
worshippers and handed out the
bulletins at Knox United Church on
Sunday, Dec. 18 Advent 4 — Love.
Minister Brian Hymers welcomed
everyone and the introit hymn was
sung.
Brian lit the Christ Candle
welcoming Emmanuel, the word
meaning God is with us in our
service in the form of this candle's
flame.
Kim and Allen Walker and Brian
Hymers did the reading on the
candle of love and the candles were
lit. After the gathering prayer, the
congregation sang, "Good Christian
Friends, Rejoice". The call to
worship was followed by the choir
singing "There's A Song in the Air",
"Away in a Manger" was the
children's hymn.
The congregation listened to the
word of God as Karrin Davenport
read scripture from Isiah 7: 10-14,
Psalm 80 responsively with the
congregation and Romans 1: 1-7 and
Matthew 1: 18-25.
Brian reflected on the candle of
love that was lit on Sunday. The
candle represents a love that is
greater than anything. By giving to
the food banks, charity, church, the
needy, etc. God will present to us a
gift. He will bless each and everyone
of us with special love.
The hymn of response was "Go
Tell it on the Mountain". Larry
Harper and Doug Walker took up the
offering which was dedicated. The
closing hymn, "Hark, the Herald
Angels Sing", benediction and
blessing "Go Now In Peace"
concluded the morning worship
service.
A traditional candlelight service
and live nativity took place on
Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. The
service began at Trinity United
Church in Belfast and travelled to
the home of Gerry and Phil McCann
for the live nativity scene.
Refreshments were served at the
church afterwards.
The Christmas Eve service at
Knox United Church is on Saturday,
Dec. 24 at 7:30 p.m.

`F' for flakes
Dominic Kuepfer had an exciting role in Mrs. Binnotto-
Peel's Grade 1 classes' performance of "The ABCs of
Christmas", which they wrote themselves for the school's
annual Christmas concert on Dec. 19. Kuepfer had 'F' for
snow flakes and enjoyed his part in the musical act. (Denny
