Uncovering Rudolph's red nose with Hallett students
Answering the tough questions
Students in the Grade 1/2 class at Hullett Central Public School recently told The Citizen what
they thought was behind the glowing Christmas mystery of Rudolph's nose. Back row, from

When it comes to Rudolph
guiding Santa Claus' sled, Mrs.
Taylor and Ms. Elder's Grade 1/2
Class at Hullett Central Public
School think there is some kind of
light bulb involved in the famous
reindeer's ability to project light.
"I think his nose is a light bulb.
Santa helps him and gives him a new
bulb every year so he can guide the
sled"
Everett C.
"Rudolph's nose glows so Santa
knows where he is going, but there's
nothing special about it. It's just a
normal light he wears on his nose,
except it's red instead of white"
Keryn D.
"Rudolph's nose is a special red
light and it's special because it's red.
It lights up because Rudolph is a
magical reindeer."
Carali H.
"There is a special, shiny nose that
Rudolph has because it's bright red.
I think it's a Christmas light that
Rudolph got at the store and then
plugged into the sled and then put on
his nose."
Clara H.
"Rudolph's nose is kind of like a
light bulb but it's not a normal one,
it's special. Santa gives him a new
bulb every year to keep it going and
makes it magic so it will work."
Sierra L.
"A light bulb makes Rudolph the
red -nosed reindeer's nose light up.
He might have a light bulb holder on
his nose to help keep it pointed up so
Santa can see where he's going."
Ryan B.
"I think that Rudolph has a special
light inside his nose, and it glows red
because his nose is red. My hand
does the same thing with a
flashlight. But it couldn't be a
normal light because that would run
out, so it must be a lighting bug with
a red lighting part."
Molly B.
"There is a light inside of Rudolph
that comes from his heat and shines
out through his nose. I don't know
how he makes it because it's magic
and he's magic."
Leah B.
"I think that Rudolph has a little
sun inside his nose that glows red
because there is a piece of red
paper around the sun. That way the
light that comes out is red and

it helps Santa see at night"
Tysen G.
"I think that Rudolph has glow -in -
the -dark paint on his nose. He was
born with it on his nose and it never
goes away so when the moonlight
hits, it glows so Santa can see where
he is going."
Loralei G.
"There is a light in Rudolph's nose
that comes out through his nose
holes. It could be a `glowpod' in
there. A glowpod is a bug that glows
at night and it lives inside his nose."
Jamal H.
"Santa makes Rudolph's nose
glow. He used magic to make it
shine a red light. He gave Rudolph a
potion to drink and that's what
makes his nose glow."
Carter H.
"Rudolph's nose glows because,
when he was born, his nose got a
bubble in it and it grew into a light
bulb, but not a normal light bulb, a
special one that never burns out and
glows all around him no matter what
happens."
Dylan K.
"Rudolph's nose is a red light bulb
that he got from Santa. Santa gave it
to him as a Christmas present one
year because Rudolph kept asking if
he could be different than the other
reindeer."
Cheyenne L.
"There's something red in
Rudolph's nose. It's a ball that
glows. He found it on the ground and
when he bent down to see what it
was it jumped in his nose and stayed
there and now it glows."
Pat M.
"Rudolph's nose glows because
people are nice and that makes him
feel good. When he feels good, his
nose glows."
Elizabeth M.
"Reindeer don't have noses that
glow, but, before Rudolph was born,
his mom ate a glass light bulb by
accident and then it made the light
bulb on his nose grow so that's how
it glows."
Sam R.
"I don't know why Rudolph's nose
glows. It's probably just something
he has always had. It's just
something he was born with and no
one can get close enough to him to
see it so no one knows."
