PAGE 23. Leisure BIA Golden Tickets for 2017 Festival season still available By Denny Scott The Citizen The Blyth Business Improvement Area (BIA) is supporting two initiatives involved with the intersections of County Roads 4 and 25. Two letters were presented to the organization regarding the intersection, which has become a hot topic with a petition being circulated throughout Blyth and its surrounding communities asking for traffic lights there. The first letter was to support the traffic light initiative, while the second is to extend sidewalks and have pedestrian crosslights added to the intersection. Blyth BIA Chair Rick Elliott explained that the intersection wasn't engineered well when it was last worked on, in his opinion, and that with the soccer fields, Huron Pioneer Thresher Reunion, Tim Hortons and Blyth Cowbell Brewing Company all in close proximity to the intersection, pedestrian traffic needs to be considered. Both letters were approved to be sent to North Huron Council. After some discussion, it was also revealed that transport trucks stopping on the side of the road were providing a problem at the intersection. North Huron Council BIA representative Councillor Bill Knott advised members of the BIA to contact the police immediately if someone noticed a truck blocking sight lines or impeding traffic at the site. *** The BIA is supportive of an idea for banners that will honour veterans in the community. Originally seen in communities like Lucknow, Milverton, Ripley, Mount Forest, Harriston and Clinton, the banners honour veterans and, according to Blyth Legion BIA representative Crystal Taylor, are very respectful. The banners will be discussed in the near future with the Blyth Legion Branch 420 and Blyth Legion Branch Ladies Auxiliary to strike a plan for the coming year. *** Golden Tickets are still available at local establishments for the draw early next year. The tickets, which provide the winner with two tickets to each of the four main -stage shows at the Blyth Festival, are sold locally as a fundraiser for the BIA. Golden Ticket organizer Peter Gusso explained the draw will be held shortly after the sales period ends on Jan. 31 and said tickets are still available at the Part II Bistro. *** The Blyth BIA's annual Christmas house -decorating contest is in full swing with judges making their rounds to find the winners. The event seeks to recognize people for their Christmas decoration efforts by giving awards for the best -decorated houses. Watch The Citizen for announcement of the winners who will receive gifts provided by local businesses.
