Christmas vibes
After the snow on Monday tailored the schedule a bit, Hullett Central Public School students
were on stage for their Christmas concert dress rehearsal on Tuesday morning and there was
plenty of talent on display. From left: Jermaine Henricks, Cole Greidanus, Carson Lee, Sully

Museum reorganization approved
A collection reorganization
project by the Huron County
Museum will aim to improve
conservation conditions and access
to the collection by way of the
development of a full storage
reorganization action plan.
In a report presented to Huron
County Council at a committee of
the whole meeting earlier this year,
Huron County Librarian and
Director of Cultural Services
Meighan Wark told councillors that
the plan would address the
immediate collections access
problems by carrying out a physical
reorganization of the space, as well
as mid-term improvements that will
re-establish functionality to the
storage areas in the long-term.
The museum's storage site is on-
site at the museum's North Street
location in Goderich. A condition
report of the site was completed
between March and August of this
year and it outlined a number of
major findings.
In terms of management, the
report found there was no clear
procedure for a development
sequence of objects being entered
into the collection, that further
documentation was necessary to
outline who has access to the storage
area and when, that the storage areas
are not regularly cleaned and that
further clarification is required for
procedures regarding tracking
movement of items when leaving
and returning to storage.
There were also a number of
building and space issues, including
the fact that two staff offices spaces
are located in the storage area, the
corporate records centre is located
within the museum's storage area,
the space is being used for museum -
related items that are not part of the
collection, there is a lack of overall
space and a lack of archives space.
In terms of the collection, the
report found that there are some
duplicate items and other items that
fall outside the parameters of the
museum's collection policy and that
there's a one- to two-year backlog in
cataloguing the collection.
Wark told councillors that the
development of a full storage
reorganization action plan will
require additional temporary and
permanent space, dedicated budget
items and a reorganization team.
While Wark couldn't outline
budget implications related to the
plan at the meeting, she said those
details will be included in the
museum's draft 2017 budget, which
will be presented to council in the
coming months.
Council received Wark's report for
information purposes.

M -T to investigate
health care costs
Morris-Turnberry Council wants
to focus on the amount of money
spent on doctor retention and
recruitment in an upcoming review
of health care costs in the county.
Brought on by a letter from Huron
County Clerk Susan Cronin and the
recent appointment of Bernie
MacLellan to the Association of
Municipalities of Ontario (AMO)
Health Task Force, a motion was
approved by Huron County Council
asking municipalities to provide a
recounting of all the budget
contributions related to the health
care sector of the past five years.
Councillor Jim Nelemans felt the
funds the municipality provides to
the Wingham and Area Health
Professional Recruitment
Committee should be included in the
information.
"I don't know that larger city
centres would have to spend that
kind of money to get professionals,"
he said during council's Dec. 6
meeting.
Mayor Paul Gowing said he felt
that information is definitely
something that should be included.
Council was asking for an all-
encompassing view of what the
municipalities are spending on
health care costs.
Nelemans felt the amount should
be reported, but kept separate to put
an emphasis on how much was
BUY? SELL?
TRY CLASSIFIED
being spent, and Gowing said that
was doable.
"It would be good to have a record
of that so we can present that," he
said. "That expense is of great
concern."
Council supported the letter and
agreed to spend the funding.
