Hospice beds recommended for Clinton: report By Shawn Loughlin The Citizen At Huron East Council's Dec. 6 meeting, Deputy -Mayor Joe Steffler reported that the results of the long- awaited Huron -Perth hospice study had been released to the public. The recommendations, which will now be forwarded to the South West Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), stated that of the 10 beds for the two counties, four should be in Huron County, centrally placed in Clinton. This comes after a number of initiatives had been attempting to attract the hospice beds to various communities, including the Jessica's House project, set for development in Exeter. That project, Steffler said, seems poised to continue going ahead despite the results of the study after recently receiving an Aviva Community Fund grant of $100,000. *** Grey Councillors Alvin McLellan and Dianne Diehl reported that after all the expenses were covered, the Stolen goods database deve loped A free online tool available to the public is being promoted by the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police Detachment (OPP) as a way to keep stolen property out of the hands of innocent victims. At this point it's not well known, but the public now has limited access to Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) database to see if a motor vehicle or any other piece of property has been reported stolen. With the increasing popularity of online auction sites and public trade websites such as Kijiji, E -bay, and other online classified groups police are often asked to query serial numbers of second-hand items that have been purchased or are about to be purchased. Now any member of the public can simply access the CPIC property site and complete their own checks. Any vehicle with a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is searchable. This includes cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, motorcycles, snowmobiles, farm vehicles, trailers and ATVs. Outside of vehicles, you can search boats by the Hull Identification Number (HIN) or the registration number. Firearms and other items are searchable by their serial number. Vehicle data is updated daily while property information is updated on a weekly basis. So the next time you are buying a used bicycle or stereo system it would be advisable to take a couple minutes and check online before you hand over your cash. Should you complete a check and get a message that the item is stolen please give your nearest police agency a call where they can provide you with further assistance. The CPIC search for stolen property can be accessed online at www.cpic-cipc.ca/index-eng.html Grey 160th anniversary made a profit of over $1,300. McLellan reported to council that $1,000 of the earnings from the event were dispersed between the Ethel and Cranbrook Community Centres, while over $300 was given to North Woods Elementary School for its playground project. *** After much debate back and forth in regards to how it should be carried out, the evaluation of Chief Administrative Officer Brad Knight was completed and presented to council in a closed session at the Dec. 6 meeting. While MacLellan didn't offer any details in regards to the content of the evaluation, he said that council agreed with his comments regarding Knight's strengths, as well as areas that could be improved. *** With the first Tuesday of the month in January so early after the Christmas and New Year's holidays, Chief Administrative Officer Brad Knight told council that if the first council meeting of the year was to take place on Jan. 3, there would be little business to discuss. With five Tuesdays in January, Knight suggested that council meetings be held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, rather than the customary first and third. Council agreed and council's January meetings are now scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 10 and Tuesday, Jan. 24 in Seaforth. *** Through a report submitted by Chief Building Official Brad Dietrich, council learned that as of the end of October, the municipality has issued building permits worth nearly $32.5 million. In his report, Dietrich said that he issued 11 building permits in October, bringing the year-to-date permits up to 153, nearly 25 more permits issued in 2016 than by the same time last year. With a year-to-date value of $32,492,039, building permit value is greatly ahead of last year at the end of October. The 2015 year-to- date building permit value in 2015 was $18.7 million. gaae i Zein ,4d etiai Let everyone know about your new bundle of joy!
