The Citizen, 2016-12-08, Page 19THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2016. PAGE 19. Hullett Christmas concert set for Dec. 14 PEOPLE AROUND LONDESBORO By BRENDA RADFORD Call 523-4296 Assisting Rev. Terry Fletcher serve the elements of Holy Communion at Londesborough United Church on Sunday, Dec. 4 were Cheryl Trewartha and Ken Hunking. Rev. Fletcher lit the second Advent candle that morning, the candle of Peace. The senior choir shared the hymn/anthem, "Gentle Mary Laid Her Baby" with the congregation. Rev. Terry told the children who gathered at the front of the sanctuary that the Christian church is now in the period of Advent which means a time of waiting for something special to happen. It is a time of excitement and of sharing the Christmas story. Jesus is called "the light of the world". Early Christians wanted a way to show others that that light is coming and adopted the practice of lighting candles during Advent. Nowadays, people use lots Seasonal sounds The Auburn Lions Club hosted a Christmas in the Country concert at Huron Chapel on Saturday night, bringing together musicians from all over the county to perform holiday favourites in an effort to get the people of Auburn in the Christmas spirit. Performing as part of a mass band that night were, from left: Jim Crowe, Kim Teed, Travis Teed, Liam Morley and Alecia Anderson. (Denny Scott photo) of electric lights during the Christmas season to chase away the dark and fill the world with warmth and anticipation. These lighted decorations show everyone what our happiness looks like. "Dreaming" was the title of the message to the adults. The supporting new testament scripture passage was Matt 1:18-25. These verses are an account of the angel reassuring Joseph in a dream that he should not fear to take Mary as his wife. In Joseph's time the Jews were a prideful lot yet Joseph humbled himself to do as God commanded to accept Mary as his wife. There are many accounts in the Bible of God speaking to people through dreams. And everyone dreams — four or more times a night and sometimes during quiet moments of wakefulness. Although most dreams are not remembered, nothing has ever been done that wasn't dreamed about first. In 1865, a dream about a snake gave the answer to the inventor of plastic of how to deal with the component benzene. A dream about being attacked gave the answer to the inventor of the sewing machine in 1845 of how to get the thread incorporated. Seems the soldier's spears had a hole in the end. Ergo the machine's needle with an eye. Frederick Banting came to an important part of his insulin discovery through a dream. These three, and countless more inventions, have benefitted the whole world. Joseph's decision following the appearance of an angel in his dream shaped the whole Christian world. Rev. Fletcher encouraged everyone to be open to hearing the voice of God in dreams and quiet times. An item in the morning's order of service caught my attention. It is from the TV show, The X -Files, of which I am a fan: "Dreams are answers to questions we haven't yet figured how to ask." The Outreach Committee invite everyone to their Alzheimer Coffee Break following the morning service on Dec. 11. Coffee and a light snack are offered for a donation to this cause. At the recent board meeting it was decided to not have a service on Christmas Day. Everyone is encouraged to attend the Christmas Eve service beginning at 7 p.m. Don't forget the Hullett Central School Christmas concert on Wednesday, Dec. 14. This next item made me think of the expression, "from the mouths of babes". A little boy named Bobby was heard to say: "Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen." And on an encouraging note, by the time you receive this paper we will be just days away from the winter solstice. The daylight hours will begin to lengthen again. And still not much in the way of winter weather which will also shorten up the winter's length. GREEN ENERG Ontario electric bills are near double that of provinces each side of us and Premier Wynne and PM Trudeau say we must reduce carbon, but will not reply to scientists with the cure. We are a group of Ontario scientists who in 2014 received the patent for the worlds only (lower cost than gasoline) zero carbon fuel. It will create thousands of top jobs. In 2014 we petitioned the premier to help get this half price clean fuel ready for Ontarians to "reduce" electric bills, fuel cost and carbon emissions. Ms Wynne will not reply to GreenNH3 scientists and continues to fly and drive spewing carbon, knowing a clean low cost alternative exists, yet she continues to make backroom deals with countries where paying bribes to politicians is normal. It is not legal here. Media is avoiding and not reporting. Surely someone must know one honest media person or one honest politician. If someone sees a way to change this or get a reply from this stubborn, mule headed premier, please tell us at www.GreenNH3.com, and tell your MPP and MP. EMPLOYMENT OPPS. MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION!
