Gowing makes way for Ginn in warden's chair Changing of the guard Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn, left, was officially installed as the Huron County Warden for the 2017/2018 term on Nov. 23. Running unopposed, Ginn was acclaimed to the position by his fellow councillors. Outgoing Warden Paul Gowing, centre, held the Bible as Ginn was sworn into the position by Chief Administrative Officer Brenda Orchard. Ginn told councillors and the dozens of spectators in attendance that he has a number of priorities for the county going forward, including the expansion of broadband internet infrastructure throughout the county and supporting the IPM. In fact, he said, the IPM in Huron County was one of the driving forces behind his deciding to put his name forward as the potential Warden in 2017. He said he strongly felt a farmer should be the Warden in a year when Huron County would host the IPM. Just ahead of Ginn being acclaimed to the position, Chief Administrative Officer Brenda Orchard praised Gowing for his two years as warden, the first two-year term since the duration had been voted to be changed a number of years ago. Orchard said that councillors and staff both felt immensely supported under Gowing and that it had been a joy working with him. "We've really loved working with you," Orchard told Gowing. Gowing then received a standing ovation from councillors and staff before handing over the gavel to Ginn. Petition prepared, in local businesses Continued from page 1 anyone in a collision at the crossroads is lucky if they aren't killed or critically injured. Knott said he was aware of a Facebook group that was started last month that has been espousing the same issue and hopes that many of the people who have joined the group will sign the petition as, currently, Facebook groups are not a recognized form of petition for the township or county. Once there are enough signatures on the petition, Knott wants to present the issue to Huron County Council himself. Knott said the petition will be at several locations throughout Blyth including Scrimgeour's Food Market and Stitches with a Twist for the time being. 2017 IPM committee introduces souvenir truck The International Plowing Match and Rural Expo (IPM) is a sought- after event for a community to host as it brings with it the opportunity to generate profits that are donated back to the community. Selling IPM 2017 souvenirs leading up to the match goes towards covering the costs of hosting the match, ultimately increasing the opportunity for Huron County to host a prosperous match. There are many different souvenirs from jackets, golf shirts, sweaters, and hats for youth and adults. There are also cookbooks, market bags, aprons, garden stakes and pins to name just a few. Selected souvenirs can also be viewed at The Looking Glass, Seaforth; Brussels Bulk & Bargains, An important ride Brussels Fall Fair Ambassador Patti Blake, left, alongside her fellow Ambassadors, Junior Ambassador Benjamin Speer, centre, and Little Ambassador James Speer, right, were one of the trademark floats in this year's Brussels Santa Claus parade, which, despite a little rain, was hailed as a great success once again this year. Of course, Huron County set an example commissioning their truck. For the first time, the IPM souvenir collector truck is a tri -axle highway tractor with a tri -axle livestock trailer with a colourful decal paying homage to the previous four matches held in Huron County on the top of the truck. Previous IPM collector trucks have showcased a two -axle highway tractor, two -axle cargo, grain or tanker trailer with decals on the sides. ,f1iII1 1", wear•4rgb 7- thema*e 7hht Make Your Own Beer, Wine, Coolers and Fruit Wine (resp here or at h6me.0 Ry 84 Kingston St., GODERICH 524-2323 t1 1 1 Huron Feeding Systems in Brussels has donated space in their retail outlet to sell IPM 2017 souvenirs and memorabilia.
