Marking the start
Pastor Mark Royall led a special service at Huron Chapel
in Auburn on Sunday night to mark the start of Advent, a
month-long period during which Christians prepare for the
coming of Jesus Christ's birthday on Christmas Day. (Denny

what he asks of us, for when we trust
him, we trust him not only as our
Saviour, but also as our Lord and
King.
Advent gives us the opportunity to
evaluate our lives to see how we are
doing. Advent is not only a time for
us to anticipate Christmas; it is a
time for us to be reminded and to
prepare for Jesus' return. To be
prepared for that, we need to first put
our trust in him, and, as we do, we
also commit our lives to serving him
by caring for others and the world.
When we anticipate the arrival of a
guest to our homes, we prepare their
room. When we anticipate the
coming of Christmas, we prepare for
the festivities. When we anticipate
the return of Jesus to this world, we
busy ourselves in caring for others
and the world. Are we preparing for
that day?
Double duty
Saturday evening was a busy night for Santa Claus and his
helpers. Not only was he in a parade in Brussels on
Saturday evening, but he also welcomed visitors to both the
Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre and the
Blyth Lighting of the Lights ceremony on Saturday after the
parade. The man in red is shown above with Austin
Leonard, Silina BraIl and Jaxson Leonard at the Lighting of
the Lights celebration. (Denny Scott photo)

The big moment
The storefront of the former home of Sharon's Miniatures
features an impressive Christmas display thanks to shop
owner Sharon Davis. The display was part of the annual
Lighting of the Lights which would normally take place in
the Blyth Memorial Hall courtyard which is currently being
renovated. In lieu of the normal lighting ceremony, Davis,
not shown, and Irene Kellins both flipped the switches on
that powered lights and animatronic Santa Claus figurines
in the storefront, bringing the spirit of Christmas to the
village of Blyth. (Denny Scott photo)
