Coultes wins sheep award at 4-H ceremony Continued from page 19 Fair; The Doug Kennedy Award for being reserve champion Sheep showperson at the Seaforth Fair went to Alycia Coultes; Graham Falconer received the South Huron Sheep Leaders Award for outstanding effort; Brooklyn Hendriks received the Lucknow Sheep Leaders award for outstanding effort and contribution to the club and Braydon Grandmaison won the Canadian Co- operative Wool Growers Award for having the championship 4-H fleece at the Seaforth Fair. Sod Busters award winners include Shawn Steeper who received An early -morning fire A fire at an unoccupied house in Blyth was quickly brought under control on the morning of Nov. 23. A nearby neighbour heard a fire alarm coming from the house on King Street that was being renovated. The neighbour called 911 at approximately 7 a.m. Within minutes the Fire Department of North Huron was on scene finding ways to battle the blaze. Damage to the home is estimated at over $75,000 and the cause of the fire has been reported as an electrical issue. (Denny Scott photo) the Steve Corbett Award for high score in the club; Johnny Ryan received the McGavin Farm Equipment for highest points by a first year member and the Townsend Tire Award for being the youngest member of the club; the Sod Buster Leaders' Award for most improved member went to Darnell Francis and the Leaders' Award for most dedicated member went to Darcey Fear; Shawn Ryan received the Agvise Award for club member with the highest points at the International Plowing Match as well as the Ross Gordon Memorial Award for the best crown at Junior Day at the Huron County Plowing Match as well as the TD Canada Trust Award for being top 4-H plow person and Lucas Townsend won the Bill Leeming Memorial Award for best finish at Junior Day. Lily McDermid brought home the Huron County Pork Producers' Association Award for being the highest scoring member of the 4-H Swine Club as well as the Huron County Pork Producers' Award for being reserve champion showperson at the Seaforth Fair. Other Swine club winners include Darcey Fear who earned the John Watson Award by having the champion 4-H market pig and Anna Fear who won the ScotiaBank Award for being the champion swine showperson at the Seaforth Fair. The Central Huron Swine Club cleaned up in the Fair Crop Awards category, bringing home the Russell Bolton Memorial Trophy for having the top 4-H Club corn exhibit at the Seaforth Fair, the Cook's Division of Parrish & Heimbecker Ltd. Trophy for having the top white bean exhibit, the Pickseed Canada Award for the top 1/4 bale of second cut hay and the Hensall District Co-op Award for the best winter wheat exhibit. South Huron earned several wins as well including the Pickseed Canada Award for the best 1/4 bale of first cut hay exhibit, the Les and John Coleman Award for top haylage exhibit and the Burn's Farm Supply Award for top soybean exhibit. The Grey Township Life Skill Club brought home the Vincent Farm Equipment/Delta Power Trophy award for top educational display at the Seaforth Fair. Melissa Macintyre won the T.D. Canada Trust Award for being the champion 4-H Sweepstakes Showperson at the Seaforth Fair. The Brandon Metske Heart & Soul 4-H Memorial Awards were presented to Brad Maclntyre of the Lucknow Beef Club and Kurtis Smeltzer of the Lucknow Field Crop Club. The Novice Libro Project Book Awards were presented to Jessalyn Hendriks (first), Ben Speer (second) and Carsen Flood (third). Junior awards were presented to Michaela Rodger (first), Jacob Flood (second), and Max Johnson (third). Intermediate awards went to Tyler Murray (first), Colton Rodger (second) and Hayden Flood (third). Senior awards went to Brad and Melissa MacIntyre (first and second, respectively) and Jolande Oudshoorn (third place). The Outstanding Member Life Skill Awards recipients include Kyle Stevenson of Gray Township, Emily Bieman for Hensall, Elizabeth, Marie and Veronica Darling for Howick and Deanna Haanstra for Wawanosh.
