The Citizen
McGavin Farm Equipment
recently donated $1,000 to the
Breast Cancer Society of Canada
through sales of some special pink
McGavin hats.
The campaign saw 200 hats sold
through the McGavin store as well
as a real estate office in Seaforth
and, within 48 hours of being
announced, the hats were were sold
out.
"It took off much faster than
we anticipated or imagined,"
Justin LaPorte, Marketing
Manager of the company said.
"We could have easily sold
many more, but we only had
the 200."
For years the McGavin office has
participated in Movember, where
men grow a mustache over the
course of November and gather
pledges throughout the time to
support research combating cancer,
mental health and suicide
prevention.
LaPorte said the company
was taking a different approach
this year by focusing on
breast cancer research and treatment.
"We're pretty happy about the way
things played out," he said.
"The event was a huge success and
really helped with community
awareness"
Christmas proximity
marked by parades

Yes, less than a month to go and it
will be Christmas. Every night a few
more homes have Christmas lights
on and the dreary dark nights across
the country side have a brighter
glow. The Santa Claus parades in
Seaforth had nice weather, and the
parade in Brussels was good also.
The November and December
gathering of the birthday ladies of
Brussels was held at JR's last week.
There were 20 ladies enjoying the
delicious turkey dinner which
included birthday girls Nelva Scott,
Audrey Cardiff and Betty Campbell.
Other ladies attending included Nora
Stephenson, Joan Bernard, Marie
McCutcheon, Lois McCutcheon,
Betty McCutcheon, Betty Cardiff,
Jane Hall, Alice Marks, Rene
Richmond, Leona Armstrong, Cora
Alcock, Jean Davidson, Isabel
Wheeler, Dale Chesher, Marg Work,
Marci Bremner and Edna McLellan.
Happy birthday to the ladies and the
next gathering will be in the new
year.
Congratulations to Murray and
Maxine Houston on a second
grandson. Proud parents of Eli, are
Jillian and Chris Csoff.
Neil McDonald is here again for a
visit and he attended the Grey Cup
game in Toronto on Sunday. The
lack of snow and milder temps are
quite nice for the end of November.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week include Linda Gingerich,
Linda McDonald, Mitchell McKee,
Melody Hodgins, Craig Gillis,
Jo -Ann McDonald, Brad McKague,
Brent McKague, Nicholas Zwep,
Abigail Lejcar, Lin Steffler
and Kaitlin Williamson. Happy
birthday to all.

Giddy up
The Brussels Santa Claus Parade was held on Saturday evening and, despite the rainy
weather, saw plenty of floats and plenty of fans on Brussels' main street. All creatures great
and small were welcome, including the horses shown above. (Denny Scott photo)
9/1 1 play critically acclaimed

as a play with humble beginnings in
the minds of a couple of people. It's
had viewings in the U.S., in
Gander and now is on a short run in
Toronto.
The playwrights wanted to
celebrate the humble heroics of the
people of Gander, Newfoundland in
the days of 9/11.
This was a community effort.
Interviews were done with involved
folks, the words, the music,
Sheridan College and lots of faith in
a story that was not viewed as
important at the time.
