Happy birthday to Thelma
Manning who celebrates Dec. 2;
Sheila Rintoul, Wingham, Dec. 3;
Jamie Craig, Fort McMurray,
Alberta (formerly of Atwood), Dec.
5; Jon Hakkers, Dec.6 and Jean
Plaetzer, 85th, Dec. 7.
Many Blyth and area residents
enjoyed the Swinging Seniors
Christmas meeting held at the Blyth
Legion Hall. A delicious turkey
dinner with all the trimmings was
served by the Legion Auxiliary.
Santa arrived and presented
everyone with a gift. Barb Bosman
and Bonnie Jewitt entertained by
singing many Christmas songs and
included the audience in their sing
along. The last song was a Canadian
version of the "12 Days of
Christmas" with everyone
participating.
In the hustle and bustle at this time
Sunday Fun Team cookie fundraiser set
Greeting worshippers at Blyth
United Church on Sunday, Nov. 27
were Lorie Falconer and Marilyn
Craig. Ushering were Emily Phillips
and Lissa Kolkman Marilyn Scott
was organist and Katie Dockstader,
choir director. Fred Hakkers ran the
power point.
Barb Richmond welcomed
everyone to church and offered a
special welcome to those who were
visiting. Barb drew everyone's
attention to the announcements
printed in the bulletin with special
mention that there will be lunch after
church and the donations are going
towards a new fridge for the kitchen.
Emily Phillips made the
announcement that there will be a
short congregational meeting on
Dec. 11 to look after the process of
hiring a new minister. Karen
Glousher also reminded people that
the Sunday Fun Team is holding a
cookie sale after church next Sunday.
Any donations of cookies would be
gratefully accepted. The call to
worship was the singing of "So Near
We Can Feel It," followed by the
prayer of approach. Lori and Tanner
Brooks were invited to light the first
candle of Hope in the Advent Circle.
Rev. Gary Clark invited everyone
to greet one another by saying good
morning or Merry Christmas. The
Carol "Hark the Glad Sound" was
sung.
The children were asked to come
to the front. They were all given a
glass of water to be placed in the
baptism font. Rev. Clark asked them
to also put their love in the water as
well. Gwen Papple invited Jeff and
Kristy Elliott to bring Ainsley Marie
Elliott to the front for baptism.
The children went downstairs for
their time of fellowship. The
scripture reading was from Matthew
2: 1-12 the story of the three wise
men coming to see Jesus. The choir
sang the anthem "A Christmas
Canon".
Rev. Clark's message to the
congregation was "The Best Gift is
You".
In the scriptures was the story of
the Magi seeing the bright star and
following it. They lose sight of it
among the thousands of stars in the
sky. They asked King Herod where
they might find the new King. Herod
becomes upset and threatens to kill
all male children under two years of
age. The Magi find the star again and
it leads them to the baby Jesus born
in a stable.
Today, teenagers think they know
everything and leave home to follow
their star. Many lose sight of the star
and knock on the wrong doors.
Some are lucky and find their way
back or they find someone who will
help them find their way. This is our
story of being lost, found, lost and
found again. Ainsley Elliott will
need all of us to help her along the
way.
In the time of Jesus people would
not associate with the Magi, but
Mary and Joseph welcomed them to
their home. Strangers become
family. This will change lives if we
let ourselves be the welcoming
people. We can make a difference.

Chris, Mark, Amanda & Zoey
The carol "Come Thou Long
Expected Jesus" was sung followed

Gladness Men of Old," the offertory
prayer, the prayers for the people,
silent prayers and the singing of the
Lord's Prayer. The last carol "We
Three Kings" was followed by the

Worldliness!
(Frederick Marsh)
"Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the
world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world --
the cravings of sinful man; the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what
he has and does --comes not from the Father but from the world. The
world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God
lives forever." 1 John 2:15-17
Separation from the world is the Lord's clear and definite direction. To
be specific in our desires and efforts to be separate from the world --the
following rules should be followed:
1. Go to no place where the Lord would not take you.
2. Be found in no company that is not helpful to your Christian life.
3. Be no party to any transaction upon which you cannot seek your
Lord's approval.
4. Listen to no voice which would lead you away from the truth
of God's Word.
5. Allow no pleasure to interfere with your attendance at the means
of Grace.
6. Whatever you do --do all to the glory of God!
Prayer is the secret of a holy life! We cannot do without prayer. The
spiritual life is born in prayer --and it flourishes, and is strong, as it lives
in that same atmosphere!
"The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much!"
