(Shawn Loughlin photo) Christmas celebrations underway A NOTE FROM BETTY By Betty Graber Watson Call 887-9231 Well Santa and Mrs. came to town and everyone was sure happy to see them. It's so nice to have that long- term connection with the Claus/Langlois house calendar and to know that they will certainly attend our evening of fun. The lights of the parade were magical, a time to consider the evolution of lighting and the imagination of folks in our community. It was a great parade. For many, this is the start of the festive season, time to make the preparations for the coming of Christmas. So if you weren't talking to the Claus couple after the parade, a letter or e-mail will still get you into their book. Thanks to all the sponsors, businesses and workers, we appreciate your community spirit. So now on the weekend you can continue to get ready for Christmas. Bob Kellington has prepared a view of Nativity scenes at the United Church. Over 100 will be on display and so with such a number to view, Bob has added a Friday evening viewing, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. as well as the advertised Saturday afternoon times so put that on your "to-do" list. Pop in on Friday, or if you choose Saturday, you could check out the work of the Huronlea Auxiliary. It starts at 10 a.m. Have a leisurely browse then stay for lunch. You have the opportunity to get some shopping done at the craft tables, take a chance at the penny auction and see some friends. Once you've done all that, then pop to the United Church for extra goodies and view the manger scenes. Both events benefit good causes, get you out with different people and the Ministerial and the folks at Huronlea will benefit from your donations to the cause. You need to keep up with all the things happening at this time of year. Sharing time and talents is part of the fun - the Messiah with the Blyth Festival Singers is on the weekend, (0) The Brussels Optimist Club would like to thank all of our sponsors that contributed to making our Annual Harvest -End Stag another huge success. $15,000 was raised and will go towards Community Betterment. $200. Dial& you school concerts have been set, staff parties are ready to roll and community fun is evident. The goodness in people seems to shine as this season of giving and sharing takes hold. Even blood donor clinics benefit from this attitude. Food banks, Christmas Bureau, Children's Aid, Sleeping Children Around the World, Me to Wee and Church missions are but a few of the charities that benefit from this season of hope, joy, peace and love. The stage production of Come From Away is getting good reviews Continued on page 7 At the Branch Branch considers involvement in IPM By Jo -Ann McDonald The week began at the Brussels Legion Branch with the general meeting for the month of November on Tuesday evening. There were eight Comrades present. They discussed the normal business items and dealt with three requests for funds. A donation was passed for the Brussels Santa Claus parade. The treasurer's report has the Branch still needing to raise funds to finish the building expenses and to build its operating capital. A Christmas mega meat draw is planned for Dec. 10 and a draw for early next year. Comrades with any fundraising ideas should contact the Branch. The Branch is planning to participate in some way at the International Plowing Match next fall and is investigating meal options. We hope members of the Branch will be willing to volunteer during that week in September. Doesn't hurt to plan ahead.
