Blyth UCW to host
public potluck dinner
From Marilyn's Desk
Proof that change is needed
County Roads 4 and 25 were closed for several hours on Wednesday, Nov. 16 as a collision
in the mid-morning resulted in police, paramedics and firefighters working at the site to
remove an individual injured as a result of the crash. The intersection opened in the afternoon.
North Huron Councillor Bill Knott, who represents the Blyth Ward, pointed to the collision
during council's Nov. 21 meeting as further evidence that the intersection requires traffic
control lights. Knott said he would be creating a petition to be presented to Huron County
Council as Huron County is responsible for the two roads. (Dennyscottphoto)

Happy birthday to Chad Wheeler
who celebrates Nov. 26 and Steve
Cook, Nov. 28.
Mother Nature is letting us know
that we can still have winter. Last
week temperatures were in the
upper teens and this week they are in
the minus numbers with very strong
winds. Lake Huron is being dumped
upon us. With snow on the ground it
doesn't seem to get dark as early and
seems daylight earlier in the
morning.
The Blyth United Church Women
are hosting a Christmas potluck
supper at Blyth United Church on
Nov. 24 at 6:30 pm. Everyone is
invited, both men and women. Bring
along your favourite food dish.
Entertainment will be singing your
favourite Christmas Carols with
John McDowell at the piano. Bring
a gift for the Christmas Bureau or
the Women's Shelter.
Blyth church receives funds from Duff's
Greeting worshippers at Blyth
United Church on Sunday, Nov. 20
were Terry Richmond and Marilyn
Craig. Ushering were Lissa
Kolkman and John Stewart. Marilyn
Scott was organist and Katie
Dockstader, choir director. Fred
Hakkers ran the power point.
John McDowell welcomed
everyone to church. He drew
everyone's attention to the
announcements printed in the
bulletin. He mentioned that the
Sunday Fun Time Group are
planning a cookies sale on Dec. 4
after the church service. Everyone is
invited. John lit the Christ Candle
and the others on the altar table. The
call to worship hymn was "0 God
Our Protector". John invited
everyone to greet each other. Rev.
Gary Clark invited the trustees of
Duff's United Church Walton to
come forward. They presented Blyth
United Church with a cheque from
Duff's United Church. Blyth United
Church, along with other United
Churches in the area, and other
charities, were the recipient of funds
from the closing of Duff's United
Church.
The children went downstairs for
their time with Mary Ross. The next
hymn was "Come Let Us Sing of a
Wonderful Love" The scripture
readings were from Exodus 15-17,
the stories of God's people living in
the wilderness. The stories of the
hardships of the people for 40 years
and how God helped Moses resolve
their fears and hardships. The choir
sang the anthem "Worship the Lord."
Rev. Clark's message to the
congregation was "You're Not as
Lost as You Feel." Many people in
many cultures feel lost. The
scriptures tells us that we are not as
lost as we think we are. If we know
we are then we are not lost. The
Israelites felt lost and wandered the
earth for 40 years – a journey from
one place to another seeking the
promised land.
In the scriptures, the Israelites had
four things that happen to them.
First, water: God told Moses to
strike the rock with his staff and
water appeared. Water is a vision
that we can draw from. Often if we
look in unlikely places we will find
visions. Second, food: God told
Moses to tell the people to gather the
manna but only gather what they
needed daily. This is a way to call
God into our daily chores. Third,
fear: the Israelites were afraid of the
snakes and some died from the bites
of the snakes. God asked Moses to
put a Bronze image of a snake up
and this would help the people heal.
This was a spiritual direction. Often
we can take a journey alone but we
can also take the same journey with
others. Fourth, justice: God asked
Moses to teach the Israelites the Ten
Commandments. When a fight
happens it is best to resolve it. Often
breaking down the groups to smaller
groups will resolve a dispute.
The next hymn sung was "Spirit,
Spirit of Gentleness." The offering
was received followed by the
offertory response "Praise God from
Apology

When Christ finds the wandering sinner
(William Bacon Stevens, "The Parables" 1857")
"And when he finds it, he joyfully lays it on his shoulders and goes
home!" Luke 15:5-6
The parable of the Lost Sheep teaches us the tender care and compassion
of our Lord towards the recovered wanderers. What could illustrate this
more thatn the shepherd's act of laying the lost sheep, when he found it,
"on his shoulders," and so bearing it home?
When Christ finds the wandering sinner — He does not roughly
upbraid him, He does not drive him harshly before Him, but...
throws His loving arms around him,
takes him to His bosom,
lays him on His shoulder where no harm can reach him,
protects him by His hands, and
pledges the mightiness of His own power to return the
wanderer to the fold of God.
