Four fire departments attended the scene to battle the fire which could be seen from Wingham. The smoke from the fire caused visibility issues on County Road 4, a kilometre away from the barn. The fire resulted in approximately $650,000 in damage. (Denny Scott photo) A late-night fire in Hullett caused $650,000 worth of damage and claimed a chicken barn before the blaze was brought under control by several fire departments. The fire, which was just south of Blyth, started in a two-storey barn that was fully engulfed by the time Fire Department of North Huron personnel arrived. The structure measured 40' by 300'. The FDNH, alongside assistance from Central Huron, Goderich and Huron East's Brussels firefighters battled the fire from 10:20 p.m. on Dancing group learns routines By Jolande Oudshoorn The sixth meeting of the Boot Scooten' Crew was held on Nov. 4 at Auburn Hall. President Loretta Higgins started the meeting with the 4-H pledge and roll call. Members then talked about attending the Huron County Awards Day and having another get- together during the Christmas holidays. We started our dancing with a warm-up of the Bunny Hop and the Conga. Next, as part of their projects, members showed their creativity by teaching members a line dance. Jolande Oudshoorn taught the members a dance to "Any Man of Mine". Deanna Haanstra and Abby Robinson taught the members the Macarena. Finally Grace Hallahan taught the members a line dance to "Uptown Funk" and then they did a couple of dances from previous meetings and Loretta ended the meeting with the 4-H motto. cot Stauied... The fire resulted in reduced visibility on London Road, approximately one kilometre away from the fire, and the glow from the blaze was visible as far north as Wingham. Chief David Sparling said the fire was a difficult one to fight, but the combined efforts of local fire departments prevented further damage to the farm operation. "Our crews had to contend with high heat, embers and smoke to prevent the fire from damaging nearby and downwind buildings," he said. "While the barn that burned is a total loss, we were able to prevent other structures from suffering significant damage." Sparling also said that pumpers were drawing water from two separate rural supplies, which was complicated and could not have been done without the support of the neighbouring fire departments. The fire caused an estimated $650,000 in damage. The barn was empty at the time as a delivery of chicken was scheduled later in the week, which eliminated any livestock loss caused by the blaze. $206 to $242; 95 to $110 lbs., $218 to $220 / lb.
