The Citizen, 2016-11-17, Page 6PAGE 6. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2016. Double duty Henk Ten Pas, left, has a couple of things to mark on Remembrance Day. Not only is it his birthday, but as a man born in Holland, Ten Pas knows the true sacrifice and meaning of the Canadian soldiers in World War II. The day holds special meaning for him. He is seen here along with many members of the public placing their poppies on wreaths at the Brussels Legion's annual Remembrance Day ceremony. (Shawn Loughlin photo) Legion hosts Nov. 11 services Continued from page 2 were available from 5-8 p.m. Going home the happy winners more than once included Lloyd Glanville, Linda Taylor, Jo -Ann McDonald, George Adams, Eric Ross, Glenn Bridge, Ron Schmidt, Judy Lee, Brad Beuerman, Peggy Aitcheson, Nancy Bridge, Donna White, Sandra Josling, Donna Bauer and the big winner of the mega meat prize was Jamie Mitchell. Watch for the big Christmas draw in December. The Sunday night dance had a new band called Sunshine Country playing for the evening. A smaller crowd of just over 60 people enjoyed the evening's music. The organization One Care is looking for volunteer drivers to deliver hot meals around Brussels. The truck arrives in Brussels around noon and the driver would then deliver to the homes that have ordered meals. At this time there are only four homes and the meals come Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays. Volunteer drivers can help whatever days would suit them and as often as they would like. If any members of the Branch or interested Brussels residents would like to become a volunteer meal delivery person, hey can contact Grace at 519-482-1634 ext. 2001 as soon as they can. Deer hunt begins PEOPLE AROUND WALTON By Jo -Ann McDonald Call 887-6570 As I travel the roads on my daily drive, I pass only one more field of corn to be harvested and maybe by the end of Monday and writing, it too will be gone. Lots of ground has been worked and many farms are starting to look "forlorn". The brown earth now resting for the winter and the machinery being stored away for the winter, makes the farmyards looked empty and barren. The healthy green winter wheat crop is a welcome break in scenery and a promise of the next crop year to come. Some are still getting ready for winter by cutting wood, some are still piling and putting it in, some are raking or blowing leaves, some are getting the snowblower ready to use and still some are cutting lawns. While away on the weekend, the nice weather even prompted the hearty to be out golfing, just one more time! We cannot complain about the weather, but we can be sure, we will be complaining soon enough. We send our get -well wishes or speedy recovery wishes to John Van Vliet. He has had a hip replacement and we hope he comes along quickly in his recovery. The first of two deer -hunting weeks is now over and there are a few less deer in our area. To be honest, in my travels I did not see many groups of hunters out there but, I have heard they had a good week. Weather was good, almost too good. It was so warm on Tuesday, but no complaining about warm weather in November. The Ryan gang managed to get seven deer and the last number heard was 10 for the Glanville gang. I am sure there were others, and I hope they had a good week. In my travels, I see the stakes are going up in some areas for the snowmobile trails. Great weather to get that job done and easier to pound in the stakes when the ground is not frozen. Celebrating birthdays this past week include Jeanne Kirkby, Darcy McCutcheon, Johnathon Williamson, Brian Pryce, Danielle Ducharme, Murray Henderson, Katie Roth, Tristan Rijkhoff, Pat Gillis, Michael Grobbink, Blaine Marks, Lynne Godkin and Anne Storey. Happy birthday to all. FROM WALTON 1ZeLook Nook Ladies Wear Consignment Shop . Get Your Look On! Quality Ladies Wear Sizes Sm - 3X, Jewelry, footwear, purses and small furniture.
