Canadian Foodgrains representa-
tive Bob Kellington presented
background information on
Canadian Foodgrains Bank, which
is a multi -denominational
organization made up of many
churches who work together in an
ecumenical spirit. With the federal
government's assistance, they work
to achieve the goal to have a world
without hunger.
During 2015-2016, they helped
over one million people in 40
countries. Foodgrains Bank
programs are implemented by
member agencies in the developing
world. The work and international
projects fall into three categories:
• Food Assistance: Food
assistance projects help people who
are hungry because of crisis
situations like war, drought or
floods.
• Agriculture and Livelihood:
Agriculture and livelihood programs
focus on helping people provide
food for themselves and their
families in the longer term. They
work with farmers to increase their
yields through sustainable
agricultural practices and they help

night at the Branch. The general
meeting for the month of October
was held downstairs while the
Cadets met upstairs. The normal
course of business was conducted by
the First Vice -President Deb Cann.
The plans for the upcoming Poppy
drive and Remembrance Day service
were discussed.
Upstairs at the Branch was the
wonderful evening organized by the
Brussels Cadet Corp 2967 for the
"Departing with Dignity" retirement
party for Captain Louise Wegg.
Captain Wegg has been involved
with Air and Army Cadets for 20
years. She became involved when
her daughters joined the Corps as
young ladies and Louise joined as a
parent volunteer. She gave her time
and soon became a Civilian
Instructor and became involved in
administration.
She soon became noticed as an
extremely confident and capable
person and was encouraged to train
as an officer and the rest is history; a
20 -year journey. She not only
became a captain and the
commanding officer of the Brussels
Cadet Corp for a number of years,
she has been a training officer at
Camp Borden for numerous years.
She received word of
congratulations from members of
the current Cadet Corp in Brussels,
from former Cadet trainees from Air
and Army Corps, who are now
officers in the programs and from
many serving officers from Camp
Borden, like Commanding Officer
Kelly. President and former Branch
Cadet Liason Jo -Ann McDonald
also offered congratulations and
presented a small gift to Louise on
behalf of the Branch.
Officers attended from far and
wide and travelled from as far as
Gananoque, Windsor, London and
surrounding areas. Captain Wegg
was an extraordinary leader and well
loved by all the people whose lives
she had touched in her many years of
service to the Cadet program.
Congratulations to Louise and we
hope she enjoys her retirement and
drops into the Corp for a visit
sometime.
Saturday morning was the door-
to-door Poppy canvass conducted by
the Branch. There were 22 Cadets
and seven Legion members
participating in the canvass. There
was also a mail -out sent to all
households in the Brussels area. This
is a new venture for the Branch to
ensure every household receives a
Poppy. Each envelope contained a
Poppy and an information card
explaining what the monies raised
from the Poppy canvass are used
for. A donation envelope was
included in the hopes that if
your home was missed in the
canvass, you could still make a
donation to the Poppy Fund.
These funds are held in trust and can
only be used for specific uses
explained in the information
mailing. We have a new generation
of Canadian service personnel
returning from duty on foreign soil
suffering from physical and mental
challenges, and Poppy Funds
make it possible to assist these
veterans in their time of need.
Please support the Poppy Fund at
this time and take time to Remember
them.
The Saturday afternoon euchre
was held with 12 -and -a -half tables
of players hoping to be winners. The
event was led by Glenn Bridge and
Becky. Winners were: first, Louise
and Mary, 75; second, Ed and Marie
Stewart, 71; third, Anne Laidlaw and
Joyce Hodgins, 69; lone hands,
Murray and Hank, five; low and Earl
and Jean Foster, 44 . Euchre is every
two weeks.
The Sunday night dance had a
great crowd to enjoy the music of the
John Heaman Band. A great crowd
of 110 people enjoyed the night, the
music and the food.
