The end of another month, the
start of a new one, what will it hold?
Each day is a new start on our
journey called life and sometimes,
we don't seem to stop to
acknowledge that this is our trip
alone. Oh yes, we have friends and
family, but you, yourself are the only
one who sets the compass, the speed
and the guide for the daily journey,
so as we hit the autumn of this year,
know that detours and bumps will
occur but check, are you setting the
best course for you.
The Housewives of Cricket County
seen at Brucefield United Church on
the weekend was a success thanks to
some local unknown talent from our
area. The Canadian Food Grains
Bank's financial statement took a
nice leap from the proceeds of the
play, extra donations after the two
performances, as well as a surprise
gift from the funds from Duff's
United Church closing. Karen
Hoegy, one of the Walton
trustees, presented a cheque
to the Directors of Food Grains on
Saturday evening
So world hunger got a nice kick as
this new money is matched 4:1 by
our federal government. It was a
time when everyone wins; good
laughs, new information shared,
undiscovered talent in the light of
assistance offered for the sharing of
food in our world.
The Lions Club was working for
the community on Saturday as they
served up a dandy breakfast/lunch to
many appreciative folks at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre. It's always a
good thing to see the many ages and
stages of life gather to eat, laugh and
chat. When it is the Lions Club, it's
easy to support as they are always so
aware of needs in our community
and over the years have helped
many people and projects, always
for our benefit. Your work is
appreciated.

The Garlands are taking a new
step this week - Elwin is no longer
the Presbyterian pastor and so he and
Linda will be checking out new
ways of aging gracefully. We'll be
watching. A thank you/farewell
service was held on Sunday and the
best part is knowing they will remain
part of the community. Thanks
so much for your contribution
and leadership in the workings
of Church in Brussels.
Be sure ladies to get your

Legion set to host
Veteran's Dinner
By Jo -Ann McDonald
There were many members of the
Brussels Legion Branch attending
the 2016 Veteran's Dinner held in
Mitchell last weekend. They
enjoyed a delicious meal at the
Mitchell Legion. Attending from
Branch 218 were Glenn and Jean
Bridge, Charlie and Grace Procter,
Cecil Moore, George Adams and
Marg, Forrest Whittard and Olave
Little, Ross Bennett and Nanci
Ducharme and the Branch Veterans
Service Officer Mabel Glanville and
Lloyd. They had a nice day and they
offered the Brussels Branch to host
the 2017 Veteran's Dinner, which
was accepted by the crowd of over
80 veterans.
The fall sports program has begun
with the first event as zone cribbage.
There were four Comrades from the
Branch attending in Hensall for the
day's play. The four participating
were Eric Ross, Bob Richardson,
Barry O'Krafta and Lloyd Glanville.
They had a good day, but will not
advance to district play.
The sign-up sheets for the many
dart events are at the Branch, so
single, doubles and team players are
asked to drop by the Branch and
check out the dates of the upcoming
events. The first date is Nov. 5 for
mixed doubles and teams. Sign up
as soon as possible to get registered.
