And the winner is...
The Brussels Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion held a wing night and meat draw on
Saturday night and although the group catered to a modest crowd, plenty in attendance went
away winners. Doing the honours that night were Mike Dauphin, left, and Andy Overholt, right.

The Wawanosh 4-H Boot Scooten' Crew held a handful of meetings recently and
demonstrated all that they've learned, including the Chicken Dance, the Mexican Hat Dance
and the Boot Scoot Boogie. Their achievement night will be held at the Auburn Pumpkin Party
on Oct. 29. (Photo submitted)

The fourth meeting of the
Wawanosh Boot Scooten' Crew
began on Oct. 11 in Wingham.
President Loretta Higgins started the
meeting with the 4-H pledge and roll
call of "how is your dance
choreography coming?" Many
members had their dances picked
out and decided which meeting to
present their dance. We warmed up
with the Mexican Hat Dance. Maisy
Jefferson taught the club the Irish
Dance and leader Eileen George
taught the club the Bunny Hop.
Maisy also taught the club a new
line dance, Wagon Wheel, and we all
reviewed Boot Scoot Boogie,
Mamma Maria and the Chicken
Dance for fun. The next meeting was
scheduled for Oct. 14 and members
were asked to bring a friend.
Achievement will be at the Auburn
Pumpkin Party on Oct. 29.
The second meeting of the
Wawanosh Line Dancing Club was
held on Oct. 7 at the Auburn Hall.
President Loretta Higgins opened
the meeting with the 4-H pledge and
roll call.
Next, members judged proper line
dancing attire, which cotton is the
best material, and learned about
adding creativity to a dance. We also
picked our club name of Boot
Scooten' Crew. Our warm-up dance
was the Mexican Hat Dance taught
by leader Mary Ellen Foran,
followed by the Chicken Dance.
Leader Meagan Higgins, taught
the club Cotton Eyed Joe, followed
by reviewing the Electric Slide and
Mamma Maria. The third meeting
followed. Loretta asked the roll call
of "what is your favourite step?"
Many members said they enjoyed
learning the grapevine.
Next, we learned about proper
dance etiquette. Leader Eileen
George taught the club the Hokey
Pokey for warm up, followed by
Meagan teaching the club Boot
Scoot Boogie. Loretta ended the
meeting with the motto.

The Institute grace was sung

Thanksgiving reading. The minutes
of the September meeting were read
by secretary Leona Armstrong. Ruth
Axtmann, President of the Walton
Women's Institute, thanked Majestic
for inviting their members and
Leona Armstrong thanked Yvonne
for hosting the meeting. Elfreda
Claassan thanked the Institute for
the get -well card she received from
the Institute.
Leona Armstrong volunteered to
lay the wreath purchased from the
Legion on Nov. 11. Kathy Bridge
and Leona Armstrong gave reports
on the Guelph Area Women's
Institute's 77th Area Convention
held at Milverton on Oct. 5. The
roll call was, "What country would
you go to help out?" It was answered
by 14 members. Some answers
were, Haiti, Nicaragua,
Florida, Africa, Guatemala and
Canada.
The meeting was then turned over
to Convenor Kathy Bridge. She
introduced her grandson, Justin Wall
who went on a 10 -day trip to
Ecuador in July. He showed
numerous beautiful pictures of
his mission trip. Emma Strome
was on the same trip, but sent
her regrets that she couldn't attend
the meeting.
They landed at Quito which is
split into two areas, old Quito and
new Quito. The city is surrounded
by mountains and some volcanoes.
Christianity is huge in Ecuador
where they visited very beautiful
churches. They also visited an

observatory. Ecuador is in the

It was an eight-hour drive to the
Mingo Lodge which was situated in
the middle of the rainforest. Here
they visited a coffee bean farm and a
cocoa farm. The group spent several
days digging trenches for the
foundation of the new school for that
area. It was lots of fun playing
soccer and playing new games with
the local people.
In August, Justin had an
opportunity to attend a leadership
camp near Peterborough, which was
a great experience for him.
Leona Armstrong thanked Justin
for his interesting talk and pictures
for the group.
At the close of the meeting a few
jokes were read by Marie
