Stitches with a Twist's Irene
Kellins will be hosting the second of
two free classes on arm knitting at
the Blyth Library on Oct. 25.
Arm knitting, a practice that has
come to prominence in the last two
years according to Kellins, is an
identical practice to regular knitting
but done so with arms and hands
instead of knitting needles. The
practice is similar to games of Cat's
Cradle, passing yarn loops from one
hand to the next.
"You form the stitches on your
arms," she said. "It starts with a slip
knot, and you have six stitches on
one harm. You loop through and you
can create large items quicker."
Kellins said arm knitting provides
faster results as the loops are much
larger, saying that the group of five
women who attended the first
evening on Oct. 12 each started
and completed a shawl within
the hour and a half they were
at the session.
"The program is free," Kellins
said. "People just need to bring their
own yarn."
Kellins said people could come to
her store and, for as little as $8, be
prepared for the evening with
different kinds and colours of yarn.
She said the average cost is $11 for
more colours or higher -end
materials.
The program is part of the Huron
County Library's efforts to teach
new practices, Kellins said, and was
similar to a program held in
Kitchener several years ago.

day is Oct. 25 at Trinity Anglican
Church at 1 p.m. Come and have an
afternoon of fun and fellowship.
The seniors meeting for Oct. 26 is
at the home of Lillian Appleby with
a potluck lunch starting at noon.
Deb and Fred Hakkers and myself
travelled to Rutherglenn near North
Bay to visit with Quinton Hakkers,
who is working on a farm up there.
What a beautiful trip. Mother Nature
was at her best. The colours of red,
orange and green mixed in were a
sight to see.
I know now why people take bus
trips to see the colours in the fall.
Coming home was not as pretty,
because of the rain. I think we
picked the best weekend to travel
because the colours were at their
best.

The path by which He will conduct you
will not always be smooth and pleasant
("Every Day!" Author unknown, 1872)
"He led them forth by the right way --that they might go to a city of
habitation." Psalm 107:7
Just so will the Lord lead you, beloved reader by the "right way" --if you
truly yield yourself to His guidance. The path by which He will conduct
you will not always be smooth and pleasant. You will have some "Hill
Difficulty" to climb, and some "Valley of Humiliation" to walk in. You will
have some thorny steps to tread --and occasionally you may have to pitch
your tent by Marah--the waters of bitterness.
As you are led by a mysterious and circuitous way amidst perplexity and
conflict --you may be ready to think that you are traveling by a needlessly
painful and trying path, and that you may safely walk by some smoother
one to the home of eternal rest. Do not yield to the temptation of turning
aside from the path which the Lord plainly marks for you in His Word, and
by the footprints of Christ. Still follow as He leads. He designs to exercise
your faith, and patience, and self-denial. The way to the crown --is by the
cross!
Trust, then, your All -wise Leader --and depend on His faithfulness and
grace. He will surely bring you by the right way... to the city of habitation,
to the home of the redeemed, to the abode of endless rest, and peace, and
love!
"Jesus, on You our hope depends,
To lead us on to Your abode,
Assured our Home will make amends
For all our toll while on the road!"
