North Huron Council impressed by R2R event
By Denny Scott
The Citizen
North Huron Council members
who attended the Rural Talks to
Rural conference in Blyth last week
felt the event was a success and the
onus was on council to make
changes as a result of it.
Reeve Neil Vincent was impressed
with the conference, saying there
was a "high level of quality" in the
panels and discussions, but wasn't
sure where the process would go
after that.

Obituaries
"I'm not sure how we're going to
make use of all the information
gathered and make it relevant to the
provincial and federal government,"
he said during council's Oct. 3
meeting.
Vincent said the rural medical
panel, What's Up Doc, was very
interesting and pointed to the fact
that rural healthcare needs to be
changed.
"I'm not sure we solved a lot but at
least we brought forward the idea
that there has to be healthcare in
more than our largest cities," he said.
Vincent also said that the 'Road
Less Travelled' panel, which
featured entrepreneurs focusing on
less prevalent rural businesses, was
also very interesting.
"A number of the other panels
were very good, but those two were
the ones that stuck with me," he said.
Councillor Brock Vodden also
enjoyed and found value in the
conference.
"I was really impressed by many
of the presentations," he said.
Vodden said that the response to
the event and presentation from
participants was also impressive and
encouraging.
"However, we have a big show to
follow up on now," he said. "If
nothing happens [as a result of the
conference] what have we done?"
Vodden encouraged council to
address issues at the table and across
the county to try and pursue and
develop the suggestions of the
conference and invite people to
