Pup Patrol
The Brussels Agricultural Society hosted a fun fundraiser meet and greet with members of
Pup Patrol, a group of rescue dogs inspired by a Canadian television show, on Oct. 1 at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre. Shown is Brussels Fall Fair Ambassador Patti

October has arrived and with it, all
the good things that the month
brings. Next weekend we celebrate
Thanksgiving — a time of naming the
blessings in our lives, often with
food at the top of the list. Autumn
walks, with crispy leaves for sound
effects are another good part of
October.
The falling leaves in all the vibrant
fall colours make the changing of
the seasons worthwhile and the
deposit of the spent leaves on the
land was the original recycling no
doubt.
The next big deal of October
would be Halloween. It is now
reported to have the second highest
holiday spending — oh my. That
explains the big box stores in the
city that spring up for September
and October with every imaginable
spooky item available. A big store
full of costumes is also a sight to see,
some of them are beyond my
imagination. So here comes
October, month number 10, enjoy it
all.
It was a busy time at the United
Church on Sunday as Michelle Lu
Hall, wife of Dan was baptized
along with three fine looking
fellows. Brody, Bryce and Jonathan

were all on their best behaviour as
they joined the sacrament of baptism
celebration. Chrissy and Mackenzie
Witmer are the parents of Bryce and
Debbie and Terry Ott have bragging
rights to Jonathan. Great -grandma
Jane Hall watched in wonder at her
descendents. Brody Gerald is the

Rev. Gary gave the United Church
blessing to our four newest
members.
Another thing to be thankful for
this year is lack of road construction
in Brussels. Talking to folks in
Listowel, Mitchell, Kitchener and
Waterloo, it was like listening to a
record of us a year and two ago. So
with smiles we manoeuvered our
way around these spots and
remembered the mess and the
inconvenience but are now reaping
the benefits of the work for a nice
smooth road.
The last Brussels Farmers' Market
for the year is Friday. I hope you
took advantage of having a market in
our village and supported your

neighbours to make this a better

and shoppers on a regular basis to
make a community market a
success. See you there.
Bye now, Betty G.W.

Monthly mega meat

The Brussels Legion branch
general meeting for September was
held on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Two
special guests were present for the
meeting. The first guest was Jacquie
Gowing, our outside auditor for the
Branch financial books. She
presented the year's financial reports
and answered any questions of the
Comrades present. The second guest
for the evening was Deputy
Commander Keith VanderHoek for
the annual zone visitation. He went
over the accounts for the Branch,
Poppy account and lottery accounts
and found everything in order. He
congratulated all for the nice
addition to the building and wished
the best to all for the upcoming year.
Euchre was held on Saturday
afternoon with a good crowd on
hand. Comrade Glenn Bridge and
Comrade Dianne Huether handled
the afternoon affair. The Sunday

night dance also had a good crowd
attending to enjoy the music of the
Tri -County band.
Looking ahead will be the first of
the monthly mega meat draws.
Starting in October a Comrade will
organize the event. Wings and fries
and draws will be held. Look for the
ad in this week's paper.
The Friday night suppers are
being put off until the end of the fish
fry season. Still a few fry dinners to
go to make for busy weekends.
The Branch cooked at the Howick
Fall Fair for about 150 diners on
Sunday afternoon. The Comrades
did a great job as usual.
