Neil and Joan
Vincent greeted
worshippers at Knox United Church
on Anniversary Sunday, Sept. 18.
Student minister Brian Hymers
welcomed the congregation.
Congratulations to Blair and
Shannon Bieman and Brian and
Jackie Hymers on their wedding
anniversaries and to Hayden
Jamieson celebrating his birthday.
Brian lit the Christ candle as we
remembered all the members of this
church who built a pathway that led
us to today. We remembered the
hours of toil and sweat that had gone
into the creation of this congregation
and we praised them in their days of
joy and sorrow as they are with us
End of an era
Don Schultz of Westfield decided the time had come to auction off his extensive collection of
tractors and farm equipment and so on a rainy Saturday over the weekend prospective buyers
from all over North America congregated north of Blyth to see what was on offer. Many
prospective buyers were also watching the action over the internet, seeing if they found
something they liked. The collection, which began with Don and his brother Cliff, was full of
International equipment that had been the envy of many farmers in the community. (Shawn

six-year-old Deveena, her mom
Shelly, dad Ken and brother Darcy
held a barbecue fundraiser at the
Wingham Fire Hall. The main event
at the fundraiser was when Deveena
had cut off 10 inches of her blonde
hair. The hair itself was donated to
an organization that makes wigs for
childhood cancer patients and all the
funds raised from the barbecue
and donations by family and
friends is going towards the
cancer clinic at the Wingham
and District Hospital.
Deveena recently lost her
grandfather and a close neighbour to
cancer, both of whom had received
treatment at Wingham's cancer
clinic. It was that experience that
inspired her to host the fundraiser
and do her part to beat cancer. Mom
Shelly Devries said, "We have only
ever heard great things about the
Wingham cancer clinic and are
overwhelmed by the support from
the community for this cause that is
close to our hearts."
The cancer clinic in Wingham is
set to receive a significant expansion
that will see it grow from six
treatment chairs to nine, have its
own private entrance and an outdoor
patio area for patients to access.
The generous donation from
Deveena and the Devries family will
make a big difference towards the
expansion and furnishing the new
department with the necessary
equipment.

now in our days of darkness and
great light.
After the call to worship read
responsively, the opening hymn,
"Come in, Come in and sit down"
was sung accompanied by Elizabeth
Procter at the organ and Lila Procter
with guitar. All the hymns were
accompanied by them. "Praise God"
was sung by the choir and the
children's hymn, "Shout for Joy"
was accompanied by Mackenzie
Wightman at the piano.
The children gathered in the front
pew for story time with Brian. He
asked the children if they had a good
summer, how is school going and if
they enjoyed the fair. People look at
what they see on the outside but God
sees us on the inside.
If we have God in our heart we
should have nothing to worry about.
We need to trust in God. He is
always with us.
After the Lord's Prayer the
children adjourned to Sunday
school. We listened to the word of
God as Brian read from Psalm 19: 1-
11. Lila Procter introduced the guest
speaker Pat Benaway.
Pat reflected on "Distraction". We
as God's people get distracted in life
and think that God's word is not true.
In our life we get overloaded with
information. God's word is
trustworthy. God knows each and
every one of us and we are all
precious to him. Where are
you in your life, do you believe in
God's word?
We need to centre our minds and
focus on what is more important in
our lives. We need to get back to
basics. It's easy to get distracted but
we can re -focus.
The hymn of response was,
"Guide Me 0' Thou Great Jehovah".
Gord Folkard reported on Minute for
Missions. Larry Harper and Ken
Procter took up the offering which
was dedicated.
The closing hymn, "May the God
