Menesetung to host
turkey supper Oct. 1
From Marilyn's Desk
In honour of the founder
Bev Elliott was honoured on Sunday by the Friends of the Village of Blyth gardening group for
founding the Blyth Memory Garden and maintaining it for over 15 years. Elliott has now
stepped back to let the group take over. She was honoured at the garden's annual
remembrance service with a special bird bath, which she was asked to fill, and globe in the
garden. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
Sunday school back in session
Greeting worshippers at Blyth
United Church on Sunday, Sept. 18
were Lorie Falconer and Marilyn
Craig. Ushering were Nicole Kerr
and Brenda Brooks. Marilyn Scott
was pianist. Katie Dockstader was
choir director and Fred Hakkers ran
the power point.
Emily Philips welcomed everyone
to church and welcomed the Sunday
school back from the summer. She
drew attention to the many
announcements printed in the
bulletin. Special attention that the
ladies are making turkey and beef
pies in October. Please call Donna
Moore with your orders at 519-523-
9855 and she will place your name
on the list.
Emily invited Tanner Brooks to
come to the front to help light the
candles on the altar table along with
the Christ candle. The first hymn,
"All Who Are Thirsty" was sung.
The opening prayer was said
responsively with sign language in
the response.
Rev. Gary Clark invited everyone
to greet one another. The hymn
"Praise My Soul the God of Heaven"
was sung. The scripture was from
Genesis 37: 1-36.
The kids were asked to come to
the front for their story time. Rev.
Clark told the children that the
congregation was here for them. The
children said a prayer along with the
congregation and went downstairs to
their time of fellowship while the
choir sang the anthem "Make Me a
Channel of Your Peace."
Rev. Clark's message to the
congregation was "Life is an
Education." In the Bible, even
beginning in Genesis, there were
many people killed because of
jealousy and fathers playing
favourites making family members
jealous. Like the story of Jacob
favouring his younger son Joseph.
The brothers are jealous and sell
Joseph to some travellers as a slave
and they tell their father that Joseph
had been killed. It is important that
we know that a closed Bible tells us
nothing. We need to read the stories
and tell them to future generations.
Worship is for everyone, young or
old.
We need to retell the stories even
if we have heard them many times.
We have to let ourselves have fun
and the children can see that we are
having fun. Dreamers encourage
others to dream. Joseph was a
dreamer and he interpreted many

dreams that others told him about.
We fail when we don't pay attention
to other people's feelings.
Take time to talk to our children
and be thankful for what we have.
We all still need guidance and we
can guide our children and explain
to them that we are a people of faith.
The next hymn, "Forgive Our Sins
as We Forgive" was sung. The
offering was received followed by
the offertory response, "Grant Us,
God, The Grace," the offertory
prayer, the prayers for the people,
silent prayers and the singing of the
Lord's Prayer.
The last hymn, "0 For a Thousand
Tongues to Sing" was followed by
the benediction and the singing of
"Go Now in Peace". Everyone was
invited for coffee, treats and
fellowship.

FROM BLYTH
Few and fleeting and uncertain!
("Every Day!" Author unknown, 1872)
"Show me, 0 LORD, my life's end and the number of my days; let me
know how fleeting is my life. You have made my days a mere
handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before You. Each man's
life is but a breath! Selah." Psalm 39:4-5
"So teach us to number our days --that we may apply our hearts unto
wisdom!" Psalm 90:12
You alone, 0 Lord, can teach to profit --help me to number my days aright!
Surely my days are few and fleeting and uncertain! Days past are gone
beyond recall --and my future days I cannot number. Let me then this day,
and day by day, confide in You --and look to You for the very help and
grace I need.
Surely it is the highest wisdom to renounce self, to cleave to Christ, and
to keep the great end of my being in view --"to glorify God and to enjoy
Him forever." This is an object worth living for, and which may well
engage all the powers of my mind.
Nor let me suppose that it is needful to turn aside from the occupations of
my daily life to honour the God of my salvation; for He teaches me that
whether I eat or drink, or whatever I do --I may do all to His glory. To this
then may I apply my heart, with all diligence and constancy --constrained
by the love of Him who gave Himself for me!
"Every day I will bless You --and I will praise Your name forever and
ever!" Psalm 145:2
