Brussels Fall Fair preparations keeping village busy
A NOTE FROM BETTY

it's a very fine month.
Fall Fair stuff is buzzing - recipes
overheard, supplies being ordered,
plans for the big Sunday supper -
lots to do. When the Wellington
International Plowing Match ends,
just after our fair, the year for Huron
begins. Details of a marathon run as
well as a convoy of tractors will be
the beginning of our year. As our
Agricultural Society is making plans
September is a fine month. Clear for the 2017 Fair to be held in
days, new things happening, the Walton, it's good to review the past
Brussels Fall Fair upcoming. Oh yes year and make adjustments as
needed. So a celebration gathering
will be held in Brussels on Sept. 25
to announce that our year has begun.
So take time to appreciate the people
who do the work and give them
words of encouragement, as usual
volunteers only get comments and
criticism.
Pickle Ball continues to help get
people fit. Outside play, since
spring, has been fun and as the
month sneaks away, plans are being
made to move the play inside. Some
of the players are very good while
Quite the donation
Twelve -year-old Alycia Coultes is feeling a little lighter these days after she had most of her
curly, long hair cut off last week. Coultes had her locks chopped for Angel Hair for Kids by
Wingham barber Mike McDonagh at Touch of Class. Aside from the donation of hair, Coultes
is also raising money for the organization and hopes to raise $1,000 by the end of the month.
She has raised $820 so far. To donate to the cause, visit either the Huron Bay Co-op in
Belgrave or Touch of Class in Wingham. (Denny Scott photo)

New cadets welcome
By Jo -Ann McDonald
The Cadets started last week with
their first meeting and had a great
number of members returning from
last year.
You can join Cadets if you are
between the ages of 12 and 19 and
have a willingness to learn life
skills, co-operative working in
groups, responsibility to work alone
and to follow directions and respect
for your peers - all important
life skills for the maturing young
person.
All are invited to drop in and see
what Cadets is all about on Tuesday
evenings from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
A meeting of the grand
opening committee, pipe band
practice and a wedding reception
rounded out the activities around

others attend just to get active and
for many, the exercising of the
laughter muscles is the prize at the
end of the session. So if you need
company to get active, give it a
smack.
Nature is always fun to watch and
a quiet moment often brings a smile.
Two bird meetings got our smile this
past week when we were sitting on
the front porch, a wee hummingbird
came to join us and did a full check
of the string of Christmas lights that
hang there. She flitted elegantly to
each new colour along the string just
checking to see if the next colour
would have nectar. Finally off to the
climbing beans, but worth a smile.
The trial flights of the Canada
geese in fall always bring a smile, a
lesson in team work and a warning
that things are changing. The alert
sound is heard, groups gather in the
sky, honking loudly, and motion
starts. Small groups can be seen
taking form, more honking takes
place, numbers in each group
increase, the direction is changed
and then two or three lines flow into
one and the honking stops.
Doesn't that just make you think
of people with a purpose? First we
gather, then we honk, then we get
down to business and finally we get
something done.
So we can always Learn from
Mother Nature, times of quiet are
good, sharing is essential and take
life as it comes.
Enjoy the changing season.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
