Former hotel property project starts in Brussels PEOPLE AROUND WALTON By Jo -Ann McDonald Call 887-6570 School holidays are over, alarms are set and routines are beginning. It must be fall. It even seems that in just a week, it is darker at night. It's time to start music lessons and new clubs and soon winter sports will begin and before we know it, it will be Christmas. Only four months away! We hope Gary Evans is feeling better and is home from a stay in Stratford Hospital. The digging began last week on the old hotel property for the new venture by Bryan Morton. It will be interesting to watch the resurrection of the barn and new structures as part of revitalizing main street Brussels. We say goodbye to Linda TenPas and her friend Brent as they return to Chilliwack, British Columbia. Getting a good start Long before the first bell of the school year, Grade 9 students visited Central Huron Secondary School for a special public open house where they could get the lay of the land and sign up for sports and clubs. Above, teacher Cindy Carter explains the ins and outs of the clubs and sports to some attentive high school rookies. (Denny Scott photo) They had a great week visiting and sightseeing Ontario on Brent's first visit. Henk and Agnes joined them on a tour of Niagara on the Lake and Niagara Falls for the weekend. It is always great to have family home and always sad to see them go. It was a lovely social event hosted by Brett and Laura Fischer and Pioneer Seeds at their farm last week. Over 100 customers enjoyed a delicious dinner provided by Cinnamon Jim's prior to the special guest speakers. Two very interesting young ladies spoke on the importance of educating people as to where their food comes from and the second spoke on the importance of women in farming and empowering women to become a force and voice of farming. It was a very nice evening provided by the Fischer family and Pioneer. Congratulations to Brian McGavin who was named Canadian Reserve Plow Champion at the Canadian Plowing Match near Ottawa. Our hopes are with Brandon McGavin as he competes at the World's being held in England. Congratulations to Daniel Forbes and his new bride Lori Ann. They were married in Alberta last week. Attending nuptials were mother Laura Forbes and Adam Forbes and grandparents Murray and Olene Dennis. Many other members of the Murray family attended the Western - themed wedding. Celebrating birthdays to kick off September are Mary Lou Driscoll, Maxine Houston, Vicki Carter, Jaedon O'Neill, Brent Pryce, Shirley Skinner, Gabrielle Warwick, Joelle Glanville, Humphries Kruse, Daniel Forbes, James Emmrich, Jamie Mitchell, Haden Flood, Steve Bowers, Julie Glauser, George and David Grobbink, Barb Finlayson, Terry Thompson, Bryan Finlayson and Dianne Machan.
