Vodden's attempt to raise ACP issue quashed By Denny Scott The Citizen During its most recent meeting, North Huron Township council members supported Huron County Council's decision to scrap the advanced care paramedic (ACP) program. Councillor Brock Vodden requested that his fellow council members consider sending a letter to the county to reinstate the program, however his motion found no support. "I think it's an extremely valuable program," Vodden said. "I have had personal experience with it myself. It's a very worthwhile program we need and it has to do with saving lives." Reeve Neil Vincent, North Huron's representative on the Huron County Council, said the decision was not one that was made quickly or lightly. "This issue is not something new as it has been on the county council table since 2013," he said. "In the last 18 months we've had eight in - camera sessions on this subject alone." Vincent said he couldn't divulge the information from those meetings, but did say that the "scope of practice of the county's primary care paramedics (PCPs) is expanding all the time. Vincent said the ACPs weren't meeting the original mandate of the program. "Basically, the ACPs, the way they are scheduled, they are scheduled from Wingham, Goderich, Clinton and Exeter as the bigger hospitals," he said, adding that it's great to have people with that training. "In 2003, however, the county moved to train From Marilyn's Desk By Marilyn Craig Call 523-9318 Fi Threshers attendees welcomed Welcome to all the campers and visitors to Blyth on the Huron Pioneer Threshers and Hobby Association's Reunion weekend held Sept. 9 - 11. "PCPs sometimes lose patients," he said. "ACPs sometimes lose patients and sometimes doctors do as well. [County council] didn't look at money, they put an extra staffed ambulance on to the road... and positioning six ambulance in the county in comparison to five at a time should provide approximately a four -minute -quicker response time. That's where county council really looked at it." Vodden said his motion was to ask Huron County Council to reconsider its decision, and said Vincent wasn't obliged to be in agreement, but he felt the only way to have council's voice heard was to write a letter explaining its stance. Council, however, didn't agree with Vodden. Councillor Bill Knott said he took the time to read the documents that were made available to the public and said he felt the right decision had been made. He also said the issue had been debated long enough and that it should be left alone. Firefighters doused the area around the pipe with water and evacuated the area until Union Gas representatives could shut off the flow of the volatile gas. (Photo submitted) The Power of Habit! In response, Vodden requested a recorded vote on his motion to write a letter to Huron County Council asking them to reconsider the issue.
