Here we are in the last week of
summer holidays! This time next
week we will be back at school,
household routines return to the
normal, lunches made, and the big
yellow buses back on the roads.
This is a reminder to watch for the
excited little ones heading for their
assigned pick up spot or crossing the
roads. Red lights flashing on the bus

I understand that Leona and
Leanne Armstrong are thinking of
going into catering breakfast
meetings. Delicious, scrumptious,
fantastic are the comments I heard
about the wonderful breakfast they
served to celebrate Jim's birthday
with the Culture Club and their
wives.
Helping to celebrate Jim's 85th
birthday were Neil Schade, Harvey
and Betty Shaw, Roger and Olivia
McHardy, Brian and Elaine
Armstrong, Peter and Sandy Ellis,
Leslie and Yvonne Knight, Sheila
Prescott and Ralph and Betty Graber
Watson.
Leona and Leanne are very busy
ladies, so no guarantee they have
time to do other events.
Returning from a wonderful day
away to Purgatory Cove on Lake
Huron were Valerie Gratto and her
mother Lily Fincham. They spent the
day at Val's son Jason's cottage with

The Brussels Leo Club ran the weekly barbecue at the Brussels Farmers' Market last month.
The group worked the grill and served customers with a smile all afternoon. From left: Past

New benches a welcome addition

are a great spot for an ice cream and
a place to admire the other nice
colours in the planters. The benches
are a pretty fine place to sit and
watch the world go by. Thanks again
to the Horticultural Society.
The other beauty is a seed that got
away, who knows how — bird, breeze
or ghosts. Agnes Proux gave me
seeds in the spring from a plant
family named Matt and they are
planted in three spots at our place.
Surprise, two weeks ago in the midst
of weeds by our ditch, a Matt was
growing tall. We watched as the
burgundy plant got started and now
it is bigger than the ones that were
planted. Ralph cut the other plant
and now standing all alone Matt is
looking lovely. So enjoy all the
blooms in your midst.
Getting ready for school will be a
major topic this week as the
excitement of getting to the
new class and seeing the old
friends takes a good hold of life in
September.
As summer theatre season draws
to a close, it's good to take a moment
and think how lucky we are to have
the level of theatre productions right
here for our enjoyment. Blyth and
Grand Bend offer entertainment that
is attended by folks from all over. A
short conversation will reveal folks
drive long distances to attend the
shows we can just pop in to see. So I

summer to see the many talents of
theatre production in Huron County.
Well done everyone.
So Happy Labour Day.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
Jason and Anne and children
Hannah, Ella, Ava and Nora. They
were enjoying a week's holiday and
were also joined by Jason's sister
Jennifer and her children Zachary
and Carter from Stittsville. They
celebrated all the Gratto children's
birthdays while together.
Welcome home for a visit to Linda
TenPas and friend Brent. They
arrived from Chilliwak, British
Columbia to spend a week visiting
Henk and Agnes and other relatives,
as well as touring Ontario including
Goderich and Niagara Falls.
Beware, beware — a new rash of
fraudulent phone calls is making
area folks nervous. Callers claiming
to be from the bank are calling and
asking about banking information
and warning folks to not hang up or
the police will be called.
Hang up and never give
information over the phone.
Birthday greetings abounded for
George Langlois as people poured
into the Clinton Fish and Game Club
to celebrate with George. Relatives
and lots of Brussels friends arrived
to enjoy an afternoon of visiting and
food to celebrate the 80 -year -young
George on Sunday afternoon.
Our condolences to Steve Bowers
and family on the passing of his
father Bob Bowers. He will be
missed by his children Wanda, Chris
and Steve and their families. Our
sympathies to all.
Spending a week in Parry Sound
on holiday were Jim and Evelyn
Blake. They had Lorraine and
Rachel drop in for a few days, but
enjoyed a peaceful and restful time.
Returning from Bowling Green,
Indiana and the famous tractor pull
are Don Dalton, Gary McNichol and
Wayne Hopper. They were only one
group of locals who went and they
were away only a few days and came
home early.
A community bridal shower was
held at the Walton Hall for brides-to-
be Tina McClure and Trisha
McClure. The girls both received
many beautiful gifts from the
community and family and friends.
The shower was organized by Gloria
Wilbee and Heidi McClure.
The small shed is coming down on
the farm of Karen Hoegy now that
the big shed is completed.
It was a beautiful day for the
marriage of Laura Bowers and Ryan
Kennes on Saturday. The wedding
was held at St. Ambrose Church and
reception was at Brussels, Morris
and Grey Community Centre. The
bridge is the daughter of Steve and
Rita Bowers and the groom is from
Parkhill. The couple will reside in
the Parkhill area. Congratulations to
the couple.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week to conclude August include
Brent Godkin, Sandra Zwep, Emmitt
Shortreed, Stephen Ryan, Steve
Eckert, Bryce Kruse, Sharon Pryce,
Brenda Raven, Jocelyn Tipple, Tim
Wharton, Brian Huether, Albrecht
Rinngenberg, Rhonda Ryan and
Kim Strome. Happy birthday to all.
