At the Branch
Sickinger briefs Branch on plans for 161st events
By Jo -Ann McDonald
The week at the Brussels Legion
Branch began with the executive
meeting being held on Tuesday
evening. Special guest Rick
Sickinger spoke about the upcoming
plans for celebrating the 100th
anniversary of the 161st Huron
Battalion's deployment to serve
overseas in World War I in October
1916. There will be a parade on Oct.
8 and descendants' dinner in
Goderich and a partial re-enactment
of the final march around the
Goderich Square, down East Street
to the former train station. The group

party was really for those who knew
where they were going or for those
who really wanted to attend. So
hurrah for all the Brussels folk who
found George, Pat, Susan, Chris and
all the family in fine form and ready
to celebrate. Friends, neighbours,
customers and Optimists were there
as a nod for all the good things that
George and Pat have been part of
over the years in Brussels. Happy
birthday to you!
The recent rain has certainly
changed the scenery. Many shades
of green are everywhere and the
profusion of blooms is a joy to see.
One that caught my fancy was the
tall red elegant cannas in the planters
at the library. The benches are a
