Blyth's Peach wins at preliminary Rise2Fame
An incredible run
Kathryn Peach of Blyth has had her share of success at the
preliminary Rise2Fame competition since she was old
enough to participate. She'll soon be heading to the
Western Fair for the regional round. (Denny Scott photo)

Blyth resident Kathryn Peach's
win of the Bayfield Preliminary
Youth Rise2Fame competition
marks the last time she will compete
in the competition.
Peach, who has participated in the
program for as long as she can
remember, said the win will be the
last time she can compete as
she won't be eligible to
compete next year due to the age
restrictions.
The competition was held
on Friday at the Bayfield Fall
Fair and serves as a preliminary
contest for the Regional Rise2Fame
show at the Western Fair in London.
Winners from that competition
continue on to provincial
competitions.
Peach said she has always
continued on from Bayfield,
however this year a prior
engagement is going to stop her
from competing in the Sept. 9-11
event in London.
A self -described musical theatre
fan, she sang "I Dreamed a Dream"
from Les Miserables to take first
place in the youth category this year.
The competition is split into the
junior category, which is up to age
11, and the youth category that is
age 12 to 21.
"It was great," Peach said. "It's
always been fun and I like
competing."
If she were to go to London, Peach
explained that competition is split
into three rounds; quarter -finals,
semi-finals and finals, and explained
she had made it to the finals in the
past.

bedside with people in their final
moments of life. As Rick Warren
says in his book The Purpose Driven
Life, when that person is standing on
the edge of eternity... I have never
heard anyone say, bring me my
diplomas, I want to look at them one
more time. Show me my awards, my
medals, that gold watch I was given.
When life on earth is ending, people
don't surround themselves with
objects. What we want around us are
the people we love and who love us.
We want our family... and mom had
that. Don't wait until your deathbed
to figure out that the relationships
you have matter more than things.
I am happy for mom today
because she is now experiencing
what being with the Lord in heaven
is like. Mom knew how the Bible
described eternity with God. I found
in her Bible where she had
highlighted that verse which
describes heaven this way, "God
will wipe away all tears from their
eyes, and there shall be no more
death, nor sorrow, nor crying, nor
pain. All of that has gone forever."
Mom taught me the importance of
family, having fun, the love of a
great book and drinking great coffee
but the one thing I am most grateful
to her for is her faith in God and her
service to Him and His church.
While she worked hard that we
would see the value of the family we
were born into, she also wanted us to
know the importance of being born

again into God's family. And this
one truth, this one value is the
greatest gift mom has ever given me.
Peach said this year will likely
mark the end of her competitive
singing career for awhile and added
she was happy to do it.
"I'm ready to move on from
competitions and just do more
singing to enjoy it," she said. "What
that means exactly, I don't know.
I've always been a competitive
singer, so I'll have to see where that
takes me."
Peach, a marketing student at the
University of Guelph and a member
of the team at Blyth Cowbell
Brewing Company, edged out solo
guitarist, singer and composer Rory
McLachlan who performed his own
piece called "Foolish Boy"
and Paige Woodburn who danced
to "Lucy in the Sky with

The preliminary junior winners
included first -place finishers Claire

finisher Hillary Harkes sang a

to a dance ensemble that included
Maddox Carruthers, Hailey

from Thedford dancing to "Born to
