We have had our share of rain in just a week along with scorching temperatures still. I generally enjoy summer heat but some days recently have exhausted even me. On the other hand I am not ready yet for fall coolness. And yet school is less than two weeks away. The fire trucks from Blyth went racing through the village again last Friday afternoon. They were responding to a call at the intersection of Dutch Line and Winthrop Road. A lawn mower had rolled over during operation along the edge of the road and caught fire. No casualties were reported. In that nasty storm that rumbled overhead on Friday night a lightning strike caused some electrical casualties in the area. Last week Jeff and Lauren Johnston and boys moved from the village into Clinton. We wish them well in their new surroundings. Jeff continues to work at the mill in the village. We visited a public grandstand on Sunday. As I watched people of all ages come and go, it made me realize all such buildings should have centre railings up and down the stairs, if only for safety's sake. There was a great deal of hoopla recently over the last concert by "The Tragically Hip". Last Saturday night, there were no shortage of venues where one could watch their final concert broadcast by the CBC from Kingston. The neat thing about the viewings was the monies made for charities. The band is to be commended for allowing the country to be a part of their farewell. Speaking of bands, "Can't Buy Me Love" was a hit for another musical group, the Beatles. In the midst of the foursome's incredible rise to fame and fortune, Paul McCartney suddenly realized he had the means to buy anything he desired. The thought left him feeling rather hollow when he realized no amount of money could buy him what he really wanted: love. He sat down that very day at the piano in his room in a Paris hotel and wrote "Can't Buy Me Love". Something unique about love is that it is a quality of life that even when we give it away, we still have more and receive more. Paul gave all of us love with his song. FROM LONDESBORO_ BUY? SELL?
