At the Branch
Holidays are moving right along.
Each family chooses the spot to
celebrate summer with reasoning of
their very own. So be sure to take
advantage of our nice days and
remember them well for January.
There were lots of things
happening in the area over the
weekend. Beach trips are always a
fun part of summer and the
celebration that we can use a Great
Lake as our tub is a wonder.

Reunions are always on the go, for
us it was uptown Whitechurch where
the Galbraiths and Watsons
gathered. Alma and Jean Galbraith,
two sisters married the Watson
brothers and with their brother Ken
and his wife Marg, they enjoyed
many years of family and fun.
Family gatherings were a given. So
with all the parents now dead, the
offspring continue to gather every
two years for remembering, food
and laughs.
So on our 2016 memory list will
go the camping experience by
Whitechurch.
Community outdoor worship
services are also part of summer. The
Brussels one was well attended and
hopefully folks left recharged for the
coming days. Steve Hildebrand was
the guest speaker and reminded folks
that God made each one of us special
and we need to celebrate. We are
also all different and need to
celebrate that as well. A bowl of
smarties came to mind as we all
show our colours and our talents but
are uniquely ourselves. We all fit in
this world if we just love and respect
each other. Glenda Morrison, Don
Chesher and the Hillier family took
the lead to bring God's love in music
to the gathering.
The Lions Club did their good
stuff on Sunday as they offered the
One great day
The annual Brussels Men's Invitational Fastball
Tournament brought out fans of all ages, including 16 -
month -old Jacoby Noble, shown above, to enjoy the great
game of baseball and all the activities around the park
including food booths run by local groups. (Denny Scott photo)

The week at Brussels Legion
Branch was busy with the
preparations for the food booth at
the Brussels Tigers Fastball
Tournament. Supplies arrived, the
booth was cleaned by Lisa Glanville
and Joan Smith and then moved into
position on Wednesday. Necessary
items to work with were organized
and then on Friday morning
equipment was moved to the park.
Everything was ready to go and
ready for the food to arrive late
Friday afternoon.
It was a good weekend, although
very hot in the booth, but everyone
did a good job, with very little
complaining. Thanks to the 27
Comrades who worked, stocked and
made the weekend a success.
We are pleased to see Lloyd
Glanville home from hospital and
that he is feeling better.
The Saturday afternoon euchre
had 13 tables of players hoping to
win the money. Winners were: first,
Hazel McGonigle and Janet Davies;
second, tied, with 73 points, Viola
Adams and Helen Dobson and Paul
Machan and partner Dave; low,
Grace and Norm, 48; lone hands,
Bush Whittard and Lloyd Glanville.
The Branch will be closed on
Saturday, July 30 and Aug. 1 for the
long weekend.

community lots of great music at
their fiddle jamboree. Toes were
tapping, feet were dancing and
hands were clapping as a variety of
music styles were appreciated by the
crowd. And of course good food was
available.
For a variety of age groups the
Canadian music group Tragically
Hip has been a part of their music
life for years. The band has started
their last Canadian tour this month,
finishing in Kingston Aug. 20. Being
the generous folks they have always
been with their time and music, they
are working with CBC to bring this
last night to the masses — with rules
and restrictions, of course. At the
suggestion of Rev. Gary Clark, the
United Church Board thought this
could be a good time to give back to
the community.
Details are in the works, but it's to
be a family time with admission by
donation with the Brussels pool
benefitting from the proceeds. So
