Brussels Livestock report
Fed steers, heifers sell on active trade
Total receipts for Brussels
Livestock for the week ending July
15 were 1,502 cattle and 533 lambs
and goats. On Tuesday fed steers and
heifers sold on a good active trade at
steady prices. Choice steers and
heifers sold $150 to $154 with sales
to $169.50. Second cut sold $145 to
$150. Cows sold on a steady trade.
On Thursday holstein calves sold
steady to the week's decline with
beef calves selling steady. Lambs
sold steady, sheep sold slightly
higher and goats sold on a good
active trade. On Friday calves and
yearlings sold on an active trade at
steady prices.
Larry Reinhart Sr. of Mildmay,
consigned 10 steers that averaged
1,447 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $153.98. One limousin steer
weighed 1,450 lbs. and sold to
Mecca -Halal Meat Inc. for $160.
John Van Loo of Bluevale,
consigned four steers that averaged
1,686 lbs. and sold for an average
price of $155.50. three charolais
steers averaged 1,690 lbs. and sold
to St. Helen's Meat Packers for an
average price of $156.
Southlore Farms Inc. of
Palmerston, consigned 13 cattle that
averaged 1,527 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $153.74. One red
heifer weighed 1,515 lbs. and sold to
Bruno's Meat Distributors for
$169.50. Andy Vanderveen of Blyth,
consigned seven heifers that
averaged 1,295 lbs. and sold for an
average price of $161.58. One
charolais heifer weighed 1,265 lbs.,
sold to Norwich Packers at $164.50.
There were 200 cows on offer.
Export types sold $95 to $105 with
sales to $108; beef, $105 to $110
with sales to $124; D1 and D2, $90
to $95; D3, $85 to $90; D4, $75 to
$85. Marley Farms Ltd. of
Teeswater, consigned one limousin
cow that weighed 1,250 lbs. and sold
for $124.
There were eight bulls selling
$116 to $142. Les Falconer of
Clinton, consigned one black bull
that weighed 1,935 lbs. and sold for
$142.
There were 130 head of veal on
offer. Beef sold $140 to $220 with
