BIA Streetfest set for this Saturday From Marilyn's Desk Some good looking bacon The Kids in the Kitchen and Master Chef classes were held in Blyth at the Blyth United Church last week and are now moving on from Blyth to other county locations this week. (Denny Scott photo) Streetfest to host fundraiser The North Huron Food Share is hosting its annual Zero -K "non - Race" Race in Blyth this year with hopes of raising money to help clients of the organization. The event will be held as part of the Blyth Business Improvement Area's (BIA) Streetfest event on Saturday, July 23. It will start at the southern end of the celebration which sees County Road 4, or Queen Street, closed through the commercial downtown of the village. The race, which has contestants line up and take a single step which crosses both the start and finish line, focuses on contestants having a good time and raising money according to Organizer Avaline Wandel. Wandel says the event, which was held as part of the Musical Muskrat Festival in Wingham last year, was moving to Blyth this year to spread the word about the Food Share and emphasize the impotance of year-round support for the organization. "We had a fairly good response last year and it was something we had never tried before," Wandel said. "This year we thought we would take it to Blyth. We've had a little more time to prepare, which is good because summer is always a slow time for people donating." Wandel explained that the group would be accepting food donations at the race's location. Registration for the race is open from noon to 12:45 p.m. the day of the race and the race itself will start at 1 p.m., rain or shine. "We would like to see if we could raise at least $3,000," Wandel said. "That would buy a lot of groceries for people in need" Wandel explained that food goods are welcome, but financial support is just as important because the food bank is able to work with local suppliers to get deals on large amounts of food. "We shop the sales and work on bulk purchases," she said. "That makes money an important thing and makes events like this very important as well" The race will be started by CKNX AM 920 morning show host Buzz Reynolds who has been a big supporter of the Food Share and participated in previous fundraisers. Both individual competitors and teams are welcome and pledge sheets and information on the event are available from the North Huron Food Share or through Wandel at 519-357-2168. I take my good works and my bad works! (Thomas Guthrie, 1803-1873) I remember reading the response of a godly man, when on his deathbed, to his friends who spoke of the many good works he had performed. "Good works! good works!" said the dying man, "I take my good works and my bad works, and cast them into one heap out of my sight, and turn to my only hope --the Cross of Christ!"
