Avon Maitland District School Board Invites Applications for a
American Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) Educational Assistant
There is a permanent full-time opening for an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter
Educational Assistant at Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton, Ontario.
Qualified candidates for the position of sign language interpreter will be responsible for
helping deaf or hearing impaired students understand what is being said in a variety of
situations within a secondary and/or elementary school setting. An interpreter will need to
become familiar with the content of a variety of secondary and elementary courses/subjects
so he/she can accurately translate what is being spoken into sign language. Qualified
candidates will require proficient skills in listening, signing/interpreting in American Sign
Language (ASL), communication, as well as collaboration with school team. The successful
candidate will require an ability to support deaf/hearing impaired students while balancing the
students' need for appropriate social interactions with peers.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities may include:
• Provide American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services for deaf and
hard -of -hearing students
• Demonstrated ability to work positively and cooperatively as part of the school team
• Other duties as assigned
Job Specifications and Requirements:
• A college level diploma or certificate from a recognized interpreter program
• Experience interpreting in an educational setting would be an asset
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to maintain a high
degree of confidentiality
• Proficient computer literacy skills
• Current BMS training (training can be provided)
• Walking, bending and physical containment as required, in accordance with BMS
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, 12 months per year
Start Date: September 6, 2016

undersigned at the Education Centre in Seaforth no later than 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July

Permanent Half -Time Technical Resource Assistant at
Listowel Eastdale Public School
Essential Functions and Responsibilities may include:
1. Resource Centre and Student Support
• Maintain an effective library circulation system that facilitates searching, cataloguing and
inventory control
• Maintain physical organization of library resources
• Provide support for administrative/clerical tasks such as ordering books or supplies
• Assist with promotional activities (book fairs) during regular working hours
• Provide support and perform duties in the areas of resource-based learning and computer literacy
• Work with individual and/or small groups of students under the direction of a teacher to provide
technical support and support with library resources
2. Technology
• Troubleshoot common hardware problems and maintain equipment service record for hardware
for referral at school level; place eBase workorders
• Co-ordinate use and minor maintenance of AV equipment
3. Software
• Track software licensing and inform staff of copyright restrictions
• Install software packages as directed by the computer technicians or trainers
• Assist with limited support of web page maintenance and upload school home pages
• Tracking and maintaining school IOS apps
4. Local Area Network Support
• Responsible for ensuring that backup and virus controls are completed on a regular basis
• Function as a LAN site administrator, in consultation with teacher and Network Technician
5. Other Related Duties
• May include lifting and moving computer equipment and peripherals, book orders, etc.
• Other duties as required
Hours of Work: 17.5 hours per week, 10 months per year
Start Date: September 1, 2016
