such as ours. No matter the age or
stage you are at today, life in Canada
is envied by many, many people.
Our muttering complaints are silly
when you take a real look at other
countries — yes our "problems" are
definitely first world problems. War,
murder, fraud, jail, graft, pollution
and hunger are not on our list of
daily concerns. So happy birthday
Canada, may peace and plenty that
make up our days be appreciated and
Happy 149th Canada! We are a shared with love and concern for
privileged people to live in a land

The holidays are in full swing as
visits are happening with schedules
being compared, things and places
being arranged, so all the moments
of summer can be enjoyed.
A few years ago we had a first-
time Ontario visitor from Alberta
who was most impressed with the
waves of Lake Huron. She was
convinced, it must be the ocean and
now every time we visit Goderich, I
truly appreciate the gem that we
have in our area. Sunday was a fine
day for the beach and the sand and
A day for the country
Members of the Brussels Legion had no rest on Canada Day, marked as Canada's birthday
and a holiday for most. The Brussels Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion held a fish fry
dinner on the evening of July 1, welcoming in plenty of hungry Canadians looking for a meal.
Working out back of the newly -renovated Legion were Murray Lowe, left, and Barry Currie.

We hope everyone had an
enjoyable Canada Day. Thanks to all
who attended the Canada Day fish
fry at the Brussels Legion Branch.
There was a great turnout with
nearly 150 people enjoying the
meal. Working for the Branch were
Glenn Bridge at the door, Nanci
Ducharme in the bar, Judy Lee,
Mabel Glanville and Mary
Bradshaw on food and the fry crew
were Deb Ross, Murray Lowe,
Jamie Mitchell, Barry Currie, Eric
Ross, Lisa Glanville and Joan Smith.
The outstanding attendance required
a few extra hands to thaw more fish

water were well utilized by bodies of
all shapes and sizes. Something
about water brings the kids out in
everyone, so it's a fun place to be.
Our world seems small when you
talk to folks about where their kids
have landed. MaryAnn Thompson
and Peggy Aitchison chat about
daughters in England as if they were
in Slabtown. Flights arranged and
money found and a trip home is no
more bothersome than Winnipeg.
Our world has expanded and with
that goes the customs, manners,
habits, language and mentality that
goes with the place at hand. Our role
is to open our minds to the fact that
our way might not be the right way
and gosh, it sure isn't the only way
to do or see something.
So enjoy new encounters, live and
learn and enjoy the moment.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
