The annual Father's Day service
and chicken barbecue was held at
Knox United Church, Belgrave on
Sunday, June 19.
Brian Hymers conducted the
service and the Sunday school
children put on a short play entitled
"Live at Five". In the play,
Mackenzie Wightman, Abby
Robinson and Emily Bieman
interviewed three local dads. These
dads portrayed by Austin Bieman,
Hayden Jamieson and Prestin
Robinson spoke about the best and
worst things about being a dad. Rory
Jamieson and Kaiden Mulvey
portrayed sons of the dads in the
play.
Following the service, a delicious
chicken barbecue was served.
George Procter ordered the
chicken and Cam Procter and his
crew cooked. The event wouldn't
have been possible without everyone
who helped prepare food and helped
in any way to make the barbecue
barbecue
happen. Kim Walker and Lila
Procter took care of the children's
presentation.
Knox United Church, Belgrave
will not be holding a daily Vacation
Bible School this summer.
Knox United Church is looking for
new people to help with Sunday
school. It will be starting again in
September.
The Brandon Cemetery memorial
service will be held on Sunday, July
3 at 2 p.m. In case of rain it will be
held at Knox United Church.

14/19, hospital Brants to be debated July 6
Continued from page 1
Wingham Hospital's "Our Hospital,
Our Future" campaign.
Orchard said that the staff report
on the hospital request is due to be
discussed at the July 6 meeting, so
councillors may want to debate the
merits of both requests at the same
money.
"Don't feel pressured to spend
money now," she told councillors.
Despite council's resistance to
discussing the topic at the June 15
meeting, the request received a
ringing endorsement from the
Economic Development Board, to
which council first sent the request
for review.
At the board's June 13 meeting,
members passed a motion that was
highly in favour of the request and of
the centre itself.
"The Huron County Economic
Development Board enthusiastically
recommends that County Council
supports in principle the funding
request of $500,000 for the Blyth
Arts and Cultural Initiative 14/19
Inc. with the funds to come from the
Economic Development reserve
fund," the motion read.
"Furthermore, the board
recommends that the funding be
dispersed at $100,000 per year over
a five-year period and that the
funding be conditional on the
proponent providing a report within
60 days on the competitive
advantages and leveraged
partnerships to utilized.
Additionally, the board recognizes
the current leadership of the
organization is crucial to the success
of the project"
While most councillors were in
favour of deferral until July, North
Huron Reeve Neil Vincent spoke
against the idea that council had to
approve just one of these requests.
"Yes, they're both in North Huron,
but what has North Huron ever got
from the county in previous asks?"
Vincent asked.
He also challenged the thinking
that stated that these projects were
located in North Huron and
therefore only served North Huron.
Both the Canadian Centre for
Rural Creativity and the Wingham
Hospital expansion serve a large
region that goes even beyond the
whole of Huron County, Vincent
said. By picking one or the other
would be to limit council's scope
and think in terms of lower -tier
municipalities, rather than
supporting what's best for Huron
County.
Councillors didn't respond to
Vincent's comments, but did vote to
defer the request until the July 6
meeting of council, when both the
14/19 and Wingham Hospital
requests can be discussed at the
same meeting.
