RYAN, Marianna. In loving memory
of Marianna Ryan (June 12, 2012).
In tears we saw you sinking,
And watched you pass away,
Our hearts were almost broken,
We wanted you to stay.
But when we saw you sleeping,
So peaceful, free from pain,
How could we wish you back with
us,
To suffer that again.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you did not go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

weren't addressing them.
"While there weren't a lot of
people who came to me, maybe six
or seven, they all talked about others
who were concerned," he said. "The
assumption was that they had taken
the issue to the committee."
Vincent said that he was aware of
several individuals who are
concerned about the name as well.
McCallum said the group felt the
name wasn't an issue as the
committee had presented it to and
had it accepted by council one year
ago. They were also disappointed
that Vodden didn't bring the
concerns to the group directly.
"He had been aware of the name
as a member of council for an entire
calendar year," McCallum said.
"We honestly didn't think we
were committing a foul," he said.
"We worked to get council's
blessing for the name the first time
around. With what has happened,
however, we thought we would
change things to make sure the issue
didn't come up again"
The committee, which includes
two members of North Huron
Council, decided during its June 7
meeting to change the name of the
event, however it wasn't a decision
the group came to lightly.
"Changing the name takes away
some of the heritage of the event,"
he said. "The municipality is named
after a Native individual so we went
on that premise. That said, we were
never trying to be malicious."
For the time being, the group has
announced it will be using the name
"2017 East Wawanosh 150th
Anniversary," which McCallum said
will remain until the group can
decide on a new title.
