County okays new ec. dev. space
By Shawn Loughlin
The Citizen
Huron County has authorized an
agreement for a new home for the
newly -bolstered Economic Develop-
ment Department.
At its May 18 committee of the
whole meeting, Huron County
Council authorized Warden Paul
Gowing and Clerk Susan Cronin to
enter into an agreement with Fifty -
Four West Limited for use of office
space at 54 West Street in Goderich.
The agreement will run a term of
three years, with the option for a
further extension of two years.
At the end of last year, the
Economic Development Department
was removed from the offices of the
Huron County Planning and
Development Department on Napier
Street and relocated to new offices at
the Huron County Courthouse.
In his report, Ron Gaudet,
Director of Economic Development,
stated that the move was meant
to be a short-term solution. The
department has quickly outgrown its
space at the courthouse, he told
council.
The rental agreement will cost
the county $2,800 per year (all
inclusive) for the first three years
and then $2,350 all inclusive for
years four and five, should the
county choose to extend the
agreement for those years.
In his report, Gaudet said that the
newly -formed Huron County
Economic Development Board had
given the move to the new office
space its blessing.
Council approved the
recommendation, authorizing the
move.
The Huron County Economic
Development Board appointed a
new member, which was approved
by Huron County Council at its May
18 committee of the whole meeting.
Maureen Nummelin was chosen

years of general management
expertise to the board as well.
Council approved Nummelin's
appointment to the board.
Council approved a bid from GR
Wilfong and Son for the removal and
disposal of the old fuel tanks and
pumps at the county's Auburn shed.
The proposal also includes the
supply, delivery and installation of
new tanks and fuel pumps and the
implementation of a new fuel
delivery system.
The winning bid was $265,824.67

The "Evening of Connections
Gala" in support of the Building
Bridges to our Future (BB2F)
campaign to raise money for the
track and sports fields at F.E. Madill
Secondary School was labelled a
tremendous success.
The gala event raised $60,500.
With these funds and the financial
commitment from the Avon
Maitland District School Board, the
BB2F will soon be able to start the
first phase of the track and sport
fields project. This will include an
accessibility path, drainage, re -
crowning of the lower field, edging
the track and new uprights.
Highlights from the gala included
inspiration words from Julie
Sawchuk, David Greig and David
Willsie.
The BB2F also benefitted from a
colour run hosted at Madill where
participants were doused in coloured
powder multiple times over the five -
kilometre run. The event included a
barbecue and raised $3,500.
The group is raising money for not
only the sports fields and track, but
also for playground equipment at
Maitland River Elementary School.
BB2F will also be part of the
Sidewalk Sale event in Wingham on
July 22 along with Paw Patrol, host a
barbecue at Wingham Foodland on
July 28, host an annual Halloween
family party at the Knights of
Columbus Hall, Christmas market
on Nov. 28, pictures with Santa at
the Royal Canadian Legion in
Wingham and a "Princess Tea" in
January at the Wingham Golf and
Curling Club.
The group welcomes new
partnerships as well from
community groups and is always
looking for new ways to help
students of the area.
Private donations are also
welcome by the group, with all
donations over $20 eligible for a
charitable tax receipt. Donations can
be left at schools' offices and made
