Madill students to participate in OFSAA West Regionals
The handoff
The Senior Girls 4x100 -metre relay team was part of a group of many F.E. Madill Secondary
School students who competed at the Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic
Association (WOSSAA) track and field competition in London last week. Shown is Brittany

Clear lines
Blyth Minor Soccer was the recipient of a new line painter late last month after the Bruce
Power Power Workers' Union made a generous donation to the association. Those involved
said the new line painter will help reduce line -painting costs associated with soccer. Here are
members of the association with the new line painter. Back row, from left: Chloe Elliott,
Kennedy Huether, Sara Hunking, Brinna Bremner. Front row, from left: Hannah Boven, Kaden
Huether and Shayna Hunking. (Vicky Bremner photo)
Ten students from F.E. Madill
Secondary School's Track and Field
team succeeded at the Western
Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic
Association (WOSSAA) meet,
earning their trip to the Ontario
Federation of School Athletic
Associations (OFSAA) West
Regionals.
The WOSSAA track and field
championships were held at the TD
Waterhouse Stadium at University of
Western Ontario in London last
week.
In the two-day meet, athletes from
Huron Perth, the Tri -County area
and Thames Valley schools vied for
top positions in each event in order
to qualify for OFSAA West
Regionals which were held at Jacob
Hespeler Secondary School in
Cambridge on May 27-28.
To qualify for regionals, athletes
had to rank in the top five in their
respective events.
Often the high school athletes
experience notoriously cold wet
weather at WOSSAA, but this year
the weather was sunny and warm.
This proved beneficial to athletes in
achieving some of their best
performances this season.
From Huron -Perth, the Madill
team qualified 31 athletes to
compete at WOSSAA. True to form,
the team performed above
expectations earning 28 `personal
bests'.
Ten athletes advanced to OFSAA
West Regionals in 13 events,
including one relay.
Qualifiers for the OFSAA West
Regionals included: Midget athletes
Jordyn Stutzman in the 80 -metre
hurdles and Austin Eadie in the long
and triple jump events; Junior
athletes Jessica Johnston in the 80 -
metre and 300 -metre hurdles, Taylor
Montgomery in the shot put and
discus, Mitch Deans in the long
jump and triple jump and the 4x100 -
metre relay team of Yasmin Eddijli,
Johnston, Emma Metcalfe and Lexi
Smith; Senior athletes included Ben
Newell in the discus and javelin and
Justin McKague in the high jump.
OFSAA West Regionals is a
highly competitive meet. Athletes
from three different regions vie for
the honour of advancing to the
provincial championships (OFSAA)
which is being held in Windsor June
2-3. Only the top four positions in
each event advance. OFSAA West
Regionals are notorious for the
challenging level of competition.
Usually athletes who place well at
West Regionals also place very well
at OFSAA.
