Zeke Walden-Nyerges of Brussels used last weekend's village -wide yard sale as an
opportunity to raise some money for the Hospital for Sick Kids through cutting his hockey hair,
which had been growing for months. After emerging with a shaved head, with the help of his
sister Brenna, he had raised over $500 for the cause. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
ATV report coming to council
Last week Huron County Council
repealed a bylaw from 2008 that
authorized a road -use agreement
with the Maitland ATV Club, which
led to a more positive conversation
about ATV use in Huron.
Manager of Public Works Mike
Campbell authored the report,
telling council that the club no
longer exists, so the bylaw, and
subsequently the agreement, should
be repealed.
Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn,
however, said that the decision to
allow ATVs on municipal roads can
still be made by lower -tier councils,
with the exception of high -traffic
highways mandated by the province.
The only two roads in Huron County
that fall under the high -traffic
provision (over 5,000 vehicles per
day) are the stretch of Highway 8
from Clinton to the Perth County
line and then the portion of Hwy. 4
from Clinton south to Hensall.
Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh
Reeve Ben Van Diepenbeek said he
felt that ATV use is an important
aspect of agricultural life and in
Huron County, the most agricultural
county in Ontario, ATV use is
essential.
While council did vote to repeal
the 2008 bylaw, Van Diepenbeek
asked council to pass a subsequent
motion directing staff to prepare a
report on allowing ATVs on county
roads.
Every farm -owner owns an ATV,
he said, and they're an important
part of life in the country.
Council passed Van Diepenbeek's
motion and a report will be
presented to council at a future
meeting.

all!
What another great weekend for
all to enjoy. No one should be
complaining as we enjoy the heat.
Farmers are relatively happy as most
crops are now in the ground,
although white beans are left to
plant for some as we wait for any
danger of frost to pass. Silage is
being cut as I write, because the
threat of rain over the weekend
didn't cause much of an issue. Some
places received a lot of rain, but not
around our area. I did hear a report
of a bit of hail in Walton, but not
where I was.
We are pleased to hear Jack
Knight is home from hospital and
doing very well.
It was a hot spot at the Rogers
Centre, for the Jays game on
Saturday, but no complaints when
the Blue Jays win! Graeme, Helen
and Michael Craig were at the game
along with many others from the
Community Living group. They
enjoyed a great game but will admit,
the cost of lunch at the same is a
little steep! Oh well, they still had a
good day!
Jean Bridge is still a patient in
Seaforth Hospital and we hope she
is coming along and will soon be
home.
