Nothing says spring like
"Christian Education Week" at
Huron Christian School (HCS). It's a
week full of special activities
highlighting the blessings we
experience in Christian education.
Some of the activities are explained
below.
The school hosted our pastors in
our classrooms, and served them a
lunch with a special program
showing them how much we
appreciate the work they do in our
lives.
Our first-ever "Celebration of
Learning" was an evening
opportunity for our bands and choir
to perform for our visitors. After this
short program, parents, grandparents
and other visitors were invited to the
classrooms to view the work that
students had done this past year. As a
school community, we thanked God
for this opportunity to explore and
celebrate His creation.
Learning at HCS is always tied
into serving, so an afternoon was
spent with the whole student body
out in the Huron County community.
This included picking up garbage
along Highway 8 toward Goderich,
and throughout the town of Clinton.
Other students went to different
seniors' homes in Clinton and Zurich
to entertain and interact with the
seniors there.
We held our annual "Great Garage
Book Sale" which gave us a chance
to exchange books we had already
read for something slightly used.
And our annual hotdog lunch outside
is always a big hit.
Finally we had a chance to
celebrate sports as our annual track
and field meet was held in beautiful
sunny weather. The top athletes from
this meet will go on to compete at
our district meet in early June.
A big shout out to our badminton
team which took home the second
place banner at the district

tournament, and our chess players
who participated in the Knights of
Columbus tournament in Goderich
at the end of April. Both of these
programs highlight other ways in
which we try to provide
opportunities for students with a
variety of interests.
May also marked the end of our
"Ready, Set, Alphabet" program, a
six-week program for children
entering Junior Kindergarten next
year. During the six mornings or
afternoons these 27 children spent
here we could see their confidence
grow. Many were sad to see the
program end and are now excitedly
waiting for September to come.
The budding trees, greening
lawns, and warmer weather reminds
us of God's continuing promise to
provide us with the seasons, a theme
we have been studying this year as
we focus on God's promises to us.
Next month we'll tell you how we
wrapped up of the school year.
