FDNH, firefighters association ready to help Fort Mac
Great food, great cause
The Wingham Firefighters Association held a special fundraising barbecue on Saturday to
benefit Fort McMurray as it continues to battle devastating wildfires. Brian Garnet of Blyth,

Members of the Fire Department
of North Huron are doing their part
to help Fort McMurray and the
surrounding area as forest fires
continue to ravage the Albertan
community.
Alongside a barbecue the
Wingham Firefighters Association
hosted at the Wingham fire hall on
Saturday, North Huron Council
approved sending two firefighters to
Alberta to become part of the relief
effort if necessary.
Fire Chief David Sparling put
forward a recommendation that two
firefighters with skill specifically
related to fighting fires like those
plaguing Fort McMurray be
deployed if necessary.
The recommendation, which
comes as a result of Bruce Power
organizing and providing transport
for the firefighters, was handled by
North Huron Council during its May
16 meeting.
If the firefighters are required, the
estimated cost to North Huron would
be the wages of the firefighter, which
would max out at $5,600 ($280 per
firefighter per day for seven to 10
days). Sparling reported the wages
could be handled through the
department's regular wage budget
based on the year-to-date activity.
The two firefighters come from the
Blyth and Wingham hall. Mike
McDowell, from the Blyth hall, has
experience with fighting forest fires
and Wingham firefighter Shawn
McCurdy is a lumberjack by trade
making the two volunteers good
candidates for the program.
Council approved the motion.

He puts us in our right place!
(J. C. Ryle, "Having the Spirit")
"When He comes, He will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and
judgment" (John 16:8)
All who have the Spirit are convinced by Him of sin.
He alone can open a man's eyes to the real extent of his guilt and corruption before
God. He always does this when He comes into the soul. He puts us in our right
place! He shows us the vileness of our own hearts, and makes us cry with the
publican, "God be merciful to me a sinner!" He pulls down those proud, self-
righteous, self-justifying notions with which we are all bom--and makes us feel as
we ought to feel -"I am a sinful man, and I deserve to be in hell!"
Sin is no more pleasant to those who are taught by the Spirit. It is their sorrow when
tempted by it. It is their shame when they are overtaken by it. Their desire is to be
free from it altogether. Their happiest times are when they are enabled to walk most
closely with God. Their saddest times are when they are furthest off from Him.
