There were five tables of shoot in
play at the Community Centre on
Friday, May 13. The winners were:
high pink card, Dorothy Carter; sec-
ond high pink card, Eileen Miller;
most shoots pink card, no winner;
high white card, Joann MacDonald;
second high white card, Mae Ritchie
and most shoots white card, Myrtle
Badley. The next shoot party will be
on Friday, May 27 at 1:30 p.m.
On Sunday, May 15 "Bless the
Seed" Sunday was celebrated and
also communion was administered
at Knox United Church. One day a
sower of seeds went out to sow and
scattered seeds on the good ground,
watered by the gentle summer rains,
warmed by the heat of the sun the
seed grew and became stalks of
grain. Placed into the hands of a
miller, then passed to the hands of a
baker this grain became, first flour
and then bread.
In Jesus's hands on the night of his
betrayal and death, these gifts of the
soil, rain and sun and human skill
became a sign of a tender love that
was willing to be broken for us.
"This is my body" Jesus said.
After the meal was served, there
was a cup filled with wine from the
grapes ripened on a warm hillside
also a gift of the soil, sun, rain and
human skills.

they wanted to start with. Phil Beard
of the Community Garden
Committee had organized the sup-
plies/materials needed for the activi-
ties. A 4-H leader acted as the leader
of each working group.
One group began raking the top-
soil. They were to spread the soil
evenly in the four raised beds that
were already built. Another group
constructed a wooden fence for a
compost area and then worked on
completing the ends in the four
raised beds by using wooden boards,
a drill and woodscrews. The other
work group measured, cut and then
laid down landscape fabric for the
walkways between the wooden beds.
They also used a wheelbarrow and
shovels to apply mulch on top of the
landscape fabric.
After about an hour, the club took
a short snack break and then
returned to the working groups.
Members had an opportunity to
switch working groups at this time.
After about another 30 minutes of
work, Maisy closed the meeting with
the motto. The Wawanosh Life
Skills Club had obtained funds
through the Prosperity Fund Youth
Grant from the Libro Credit Union
for the building of the raised beds for
the Wingham Community Garden.
On May 5 at 7 p.m. the Wawanosh
4-H Grow Your Own Club took part
in the Auburn Co-op Container
Gardening Workshop. Members
jumped right into the gardening.
Gardening expert Rhea Hamilton -
Seeger told the club the first thing
you put in your container garden is a
thriller. A thriller is an exciting plant
that draws attention to the container.
Next step is to add fillers to make the
pot less vacant and more colourful.
Last step is to add spillers. These are
plants that flow over the side of the
pot adding more to it.
With these steps in mind members
began to fill their containers. First
They added gravel to the bottom to
let water out but keep the soil in.
Then, they added soil and their vari-
ous thrillers, fillers and spillers.
With the flowers planted members
filled their pots with soil and could
even keep the containers at the Co-
op to be nurtured or take them home
to showcase.
Members were asked to think of
names of the club, but the name is to
be confirmed at the next meeting.
They enjoyed a snack provided by
the Co-op and talked about various
gardening facts before leaving.
The next meeting is May 31 at
7 p.m. at the Wingham Community
Garden.
