Menesetung hosting
pancake breakfast
From Marilyn's Desk
Good causes
The Blyth Christian Reformed Church held a special pancake breakfast on Saturday to raise
money for two worthy causes: Habitat for Humanity and then for the Plunkett family whose
house was lost due to fire the previous evening. The event was well attended, raising plenty
for charity. From left: Brook Bisschop, Kyle Bos, Tyler Boven and Leah Monden. (Vicky Bremner

Lions helping Fort McMurray
Greeting worshippers at Blyth
United Church on Sunday May 8,
were Brenda Brooks and Marilyn
Craig. Ushering were Arletta
Hallahan, Brenda Brooks and Nicole
Kerr. Marilyn Scott was pianist and
Katie Dockstader, choir director.
Bryce Glousher ran the power point.
As mothers came to church Rev.
Clark offered them a cup of tea.
John Stewart welcomed everyone
to church on Mother's Day. He drew
attention to the announcements
printed in the Bulletin and running
on the power point.
John also told the congregation
that the Lions Club is collecting
donations to help those in Fort
McMurray. John invited Bo
Wharton to come to the front and
light the Christ Candle and the
others on the altar table. The first
hymn "Spirit Open My Heart" was
sung. The opening prayer was said
responsively with the sign language
in the response.
Rev. Gary Clark invited everyone
to greet one another and wish the
mothers "Happy Mother's Day." The
first scripture was from John 2:1-11.
The choir sang the anthem "Lord,
Be With Us On This Day."
The children were asked to come
to the front for their story time. After
watching a short video about moms,
the children were asked what they
saw happening in the video. Some
answers were moms helping kids,
trying to get the kids up in the
morning, the mothers were happy

and proud of their kids. Rev. Clark
told the children that mothers
encourage their children to do their
best.
The children repeated a prayer
along with the congregation and
then went downstairs for their time
of fellowship while the congregation
sang the hymn "Jesus Friend of
Little Children." The second
scripture reading was from Acts 8:
26-40.
Rev. Clark's message to the
congregation was "Mother's Day
Tea Service." The two scriptures tell
stories of mothers. The Gospel of
John refers to Mary as Mary Mother
of Jesus. In the scripture Mary asks
her son Jesus if He could help out at
a wedding that had run out of wine
on the third day of the wedding.
Jesus tells Mary that His time has
not come but Mary knows it has
come and Jesus begins His
teachings. Mary was there with
Jesus every step of the way. At the
foot of the cross Mary maybe
blames herself for Jesus' troubles.
This summer the Blyth Festival is
producing a play about Matthew
Dinning and how the military asked
his parents if it was alright with
them if their second son went to
fight the war that had taken the life
of their first son. Mothers show their
strength when their kids are in
trouble or hot water. In the scripture,
Philip greets and welcomes a man
from Ethiopia. Philip calls him
brother and they journey together.
Our mothers always see our
potential.
The next hymn "What a Friend We
Have In Jesus" was sung. The
offering was received followed by
the offertory response "Grant Us
God" the offertory prayer, prayers of
the people, silent prayers for the
people of Fort McMurray and our
own family of David and Julie
Plunkett who lost their home by fire
this past week and the singing of the
Lord's Prayer. The last hymn "Bring
Many Names" was followed by the
benediction and the singing of "Go
Now in Peace.
Everyone was invited for coffee
and treats and the Sunday Fun
Group handed out cookies they had
decorated for all the mothers and
everyone.

Satan promises the best --but pays with the worst!
(Thomas Brooks)
"The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord!" Romans 6:23
Satan promises the best --but pays with the worst!
He promises honour --and pays with disgrace.
He promises pleasure --and pays with pain.
He promises profit --and pays with loss.
He promises life --and pays with death.
But God pays as He promises --all His payments are made in pure gold!
"You have made known to me the path of life! You will fill me with joy in Your
presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand!" Psalm 16:11
