A group effort
The Blyth Festival Art Gallery Student Show opened on April 28 and recognized the efforts of
local art students. Typically, awards are handed out to students for their individual efforts,
however, this year, the judges decided to recognize the creativity of an entire class of students
that tackled a project together. The Grade 9 Semester 1 class from Goderich District
Collegiate Institute, represented by Evangeline Edwards, left, and Mikayla Skyring, was
awarded for its project, "Modern Warhol Collaboration Piece". (Denny Scott photo)

receive recognition but I don't...
then I become greatly discouraged.
So really this attitude is a lose -lose
situation and the problem isn't with
the other people, it is my problem. I
have the selfish and misguided
attitude as to how I should be going
about my work.
I have found how something
significantly changes when I am
willing to change the pattern of my
thinking to the way of Colossians 3:
23-34. When I see what I do as
though I were working for the Lord
rather than for people then I am
never disappointed or begrudge my
labour. How could I... after all Jesus
has done and is doing for me? I am
humbled and honoured to have any
part in His Kingdom work.
Suddenly, I am not looking for the
praise of man because I don't see
myself doing it for them. I am doing

this willingly for the Lord and I am
deeply grateful for this opportunity. I
know Jesus sees and understands the
true motives of my heart. So I am
careful to make sure my motives are
pure and honourable.
So now, when I do receive thanks
and gratitude from others, and I do,
it is unexpected and it just adds to
the satisfaction I am already
experiencing as I work for the Lord.
This is such a better, more
productive and healthier way to live.
Even more, though I don't deserve
it, the Lord says He will reward me
one day for the work do for Him.

Community Show
set to open May 21
The Blyth Festival Art Gallery is
looking for art hobbyists, amateur
crafters, professional artisans or
recognized visual artists to display
their work in the 2016 Community
Show. This is a great opportunity for
talented individuals from the Huron
County area to get exposure to a
local audience or maybe even have a
career breakthrough.
Area residents are invited to
submit one or two pieces in any
media for the show. This is an
annual, non-juried exhibition and
features the creations of dozens of
Huron County's professional and
hobby artists. The work will be
accepted on the morning of
Saturday, May 21, in the Bainton
Gallery, situated in the Blyth
Memorial Hall beside the Festival
box office. The exhibition runs until
June 10.
Included among the pieces on
exhibit will be a wide range of
media, from oil paintings and
acrylics to photography, ceramics,
and glass. Not even the show curator
is ever sure what exactly will be
shown until the artists bring in their
creations on Saturday morning.
Artists are asked to bring their
works (maximum of two) to the
gallery on Saturday, May 21
between 9 a.m. and noon. Two-
dimensional pieces must be framed
or mounted, suitable for hanging and
not exceed 36"x36" each. Free-
standing sculptures must be no wider
than 36". A nominal fee of $10 per
piece is charged and the work will be
included in the exhibition. Parties
interested in buying a work of art
will be directed to the artist and no
commission will be charged.
All art must remain in the gallery
for the complete length of the show
and must be picked up on Saturday,
June 11.
The Community Show 2016 is
sponsored by Maarten Bokhout and
Helena McShane.
Members of the public are invited
to view the works free of charge
from May 21 to June 10. The art
gallery is open during Blyth Festival
box office business hours.
