(Photo submitted) Walton loses respected resident PEOPLE AROUND WALTON By Jo -Ann McDonald Call 887-6570 It was a sad week around the Walton area with the news of the passing of Henry Grobbink. He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 40 years, Mary Ann and his children Jeff, Veronica, Michael, Jennifer, Rosanna, Laurie, David and Kristen and their families. Henry was a caring and gentle man who loved to surround himself with his family. Always a pleasure to talk with and he always found time to talk. Henry lived on Walton Road since 1966, when his father Bernard bought the farm. Henry and Mary Ann lived on the same farm since their marriage in 1976. They were dairy farmers until about five years ago, when they went into broiler chickens. Henry will be missed by his extended family, friends and neighbours. Our condolences to the Grobbink family. We are sorry to hear that Bill Stephenson is a patient in hospital at this time. We hope he is feeling better and is soon back to Huronlea. We are pleased to hear Joyce Alexander is home and doing very well since her back surgery two weeks ago. She is amazed at how she is coming along and how much better she feels already. It was party time at Huronlea last week for resident Margery Huether. Many friends of Margery's gathered to help celebrate her 80th birthday. Joining for a social time and then cake and ice cream were Dona Knight, Betty McCutcheon, Yvonne Knight, Betty Knight, Marion Smith, Mary Morrow, Merle McIntosh, Isabel Wheeler, her good friend and travelling companion, Annette Haven and Margery's sister Nancy. They had a lovely afternoon and visit with one another. Happy birthday Margery! It was nice to have Gail and Alex Glanville around the area last week. They spent time visiting with the Storey and Glanville relatives for the week. Gail attended the Breath of Spring event organized by sister-in- law Betty (and others) during the stay. They always try and catch up with all the family members while here. They have returned to Melford, Saskatchewan. There is a new face around the Walton Inn these days. Jaden Shortreed is learning the tricks of waitressing and it is nice to have a lovely young face to see. The month of April finishes with a bunch of birthdays including Kelsey Eckert, Marcy McCall MacBain, Pat McDonald Parr, Donald Dalton, John Huether, Dave Lewington and Joe Steffler. The first of May and celebrating were Chris Holmes, Hayden Kelso, Chad McCallum, Don Williamson, Judy Valley and continuing Bev Fraser, Mitchell Godkin, Lori Nolan, Annelies Ringgenberg, Kendra Cardiff, Justin Bernard, Andrea Humphries, Eaden Linton, Joe Ryan, Wes McDonald, Veronica Grobbink, and Emma Robinson. Happy birthday to all! The council of the Municipality of Morris-Turnberry has approved a donation of $200,000 to the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation's Our Hospital, Our Future campaign. The $200,000 is a pledge to be contributed in instalments over the next five years. Residents of Morris-Turnberry are the second most frequent visitors to the Wingham and District Hospital, after residents of North Huron. The councillors met with representatives from the hospital campaign fundraising committee on May 2 to formally present the donation. Mayor Paul Gowing said, "the Wingham and District Hospital provides vital healthcare services to the residents of Morris-Turnberry and an investment in the hospital is an investment in the future of our community." The support of Morris-Turnberry is a significant component in the anticipated overall success of the Hospital Foundation's fundraising campaign. Campaign Chair Mark Foxton congratulated the councillors for demonstrating their belief that "a prosperous community includes an up-to-date hospital". Thanks to significant donations such as the one by Morris- Turnberry, the Our Hospital, Our Future Campaign has now achieved 50 per cent of its $4 million goal. The capital fundraising campaign supports enhancement of key healthcare infrastructure. Specifically, the expansion of six hospital departments, including the only chemotherapy clinic in Huron and Bruce Counties, the creation of a healthcare campus providing primary care services and upgrading vital medical equipment. More information on the hospital, the campaign and its planned renovations can be found at www. wdhfoundati on. ca.
